Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

In recent days, individuals are admiring and adapting global fashion trends to style themselves every day. This is mainly due to rapid advancements in social media updates, and I believe this is a largely positive development as it significantly helps to know the people to know about what is really trending these days to fashion and style out individually.

People have strong influence on worldwide fashion because of the latest developments in the publicity of clothing and innovations by creative artists socially. This is because more data and global connectivity can now learn the basic tasks of fashion world. As a result, they will not resist themselves to not to adapt these ideas. For example, globally, the data is saved in Google Chrome and in the past and present books, and now humankind are taking interest to use that style and make more exquisite innovations for future years.

It is a positive development because it is necessary to survive in this world and enhance yourself beautifully. Our day-to-day lives are dominated by repetitive tasks that consumes large amount to energy, but because of the social media apps and technology, we can get the knowledge about today's fashion and wear dresses according to our likings, but with respect for different cultures. For instance, Urfi Javed, an Indian lady, started her career in fashion in her childhood, and she has become a popular fashion designer, and many of her loved ones are trying to make their dressing outcomes like hers. Consequently, this helps the population to acquire some basic knowledge and give them some interest in what to choose in their future academic lives.

In conclusion, nowadays, fashion lovers are encouraging themselves to adopt clothing. This is because of sharply increase in the advertisements in digital platforms. I firmly believe that it is an advantageous way for those who don't have any idea about clothing, and in this way they are influencing themselves to make and wear dresses like brilliant makers.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying social media and connectivity as drivers of fashion and arguing that this is a positive development. However, the development of ideas is often unclear or illogical. For instance, the explanation of how 'data saved in Google Chrome' influences fashion is vague and lacks relevance. Similarly, the example of Urfi Javed is not clearly linked to the broader argument about global fashion trends. While a position is maintained, the supporting arguments lack the depth and clarity required for a higher band, as the reasoning often becomes circular or confusing.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression within and between them is frequently disrupted by awkward phrasing and unclear transitions. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'As a result' and 'In conclusion', they are sometimes used incorrectly or to connect ideas that do not logically follow one another. The referencing is occasionally ambiguous, making it difficult for the reader to follow the writer's train of thought. The overall structure is present, but the flow of ideas is often mechanical and sometimes disjointed.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally limited and repetitive, often relying on basic or imprecise terms. Phrases like 'style out individually' and 'make their dressing outcomes' are unnatural and demonstrate a lack of control over collocation. There are attempts to use more academic vocabulary, such as 'exquisite innovations' and 'advancements', but these are often used in contexts where they do not quite fit. The range is sufficient to communicate the basic message, but the lack of precision and the presence of awkward word choices prevent a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'tasks that consumes'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward sentence construction (e.g., 'they will not resist themselves to not to adapt'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence structure is noticeable. While the meaning is usually recoverable, the lack of consistent accuracy in complex structures limits the score.
