Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for the influence of global fashion and providing a clear stance. However, the development of ideas is inconsistent. While the points regarding social media and consumerism are relevant, the explanation of environmental impacts is somewhat disjointed and the essay ends abruptly mid-sentence, which prevents a full conclusion. The position is clear, but the supporting arguments lack the depth required for a higher band, as some points are over-generalized or lack sufficient logical connection to the main argument.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'To commence with' and 'To recapitulate'. There are instances where the logical flow between sentences is weak, particularly in the transition between the positive and negative aspects of fashion. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the abrupt ending significantly disrupts the overall coherence of the piece.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and sophistication. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'fashion voyage' instead of 'fashion trends' and 'stitches similar kind of outfits' instead of 'replicate outfits'. Some collocations are incorrect, such as 'gain fame due there authentic' and 'massive quantity of microfabrics have obtained'. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'consumerism' and 'ecosystem', the overall range is limited and errors occasionally impede the clarity of the message.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('individuals lives are influence', 'many individuals has gain'), article usage, and word form errors ('global participate', 'purchases expensive'). Punctuation is also inconsistent. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the response from reaching a higher band, as these errors are noticeable and persistent.
