Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the influence of global fashion and the evaluation of whether this is positive or negative. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. While you mention social media and economic benefits, the arguments lack depth and specific analysis. For instance, the link between social media and fashion trends is stated but not fully explored. The conclusion attempts to balance the positive and negative aspects, but the overall position could be more clearly articulated throughout the essay. To improve, ensure each body paragraph provides a more detailed explanation or a more nuanced example to support your claims.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices like 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion', which provide a basic framework. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'On the first hand' (which should be 'On the one hand'). Additionally, the transition between ideas within paragraphs is occasionally abrupt. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the relationship between sentences is more fluid and natural.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You use basic terms like 'big' and 'good-looking', which are repetitive and lack sophistication. There are also some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'citizens like wears' (should be 'people like wearing') and 'tradition culture' (should be 'traditional culture'). While you attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'GDP' and 'textile wastes', the overall range is limited. Expanding your vocabulary to include more academic collocations and precise synonyms will significantly improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('fashion brands... give', 'it also come'), article usage ('in environment'), and pluralisation ('cloths' instead of 'clothes'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of semicolons and commas. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and refining your control over sentence structure will be beneficial.
