Student answer (Band 6.5)
The way people dress nowadays is mostly influenced by global fashion trends. This is because of globalisation and the advance of technology. Overall, I believe this is negative to the society because of the environmental damage caused.
The primary reason why people have a similar taste for clothes is because of globalisation and technology. A significant part of the population have access to social media. This mean that they can see what the social media influencers have been using, and they might try to copy some aspects of it. For example, a person can follow someone online, search the brand or style of clothes they were using and buy from anywhere. Globalisation means that it does not matter where someone lives, they can purchase what they desire. This results in many people all around the world following the newest trends available.
On the other hand, the environmental damage caused by the fashion industry makes me believe that this is a negative development to the world. Every year, millions of tons of material are wasted, as well as the clothes that were not sold. The result of it can be seen in the ocean, where the industrial waste are sent daily. In some part of Asia, for example, there are places called "island of clothes", where a significant part of the rubbish produced by those companies are sent. The pollution causes a lot of problems to the community in that area, from diseases to problems with water and food contamination.
In conclusion, globalisation and technology influence the way people dress because the social media connects individuals around the world, while globalisation make it easier to buy new products. However, I believe the environmental issues caused by the waste that this sector produce, results in a negative development for the society.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: explaining the influence of global fashion and providing a clear opinion on whether it is positive or negative. The position is consistent throughout. The ideas are relevant, particularly the link between social media and consumerism, and the environmental impact. However, the development of the 'influence' aspect is somewhat brief. While the environmental argument is well-supported with the example of 'islands of clothes', the discussion on how global fashion influences lives could be more deeply explored beyond just social media access to achieve a higher band. Overall, the task is fully addressed with a clear, logical progression of ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs. Each paragraph has a central topic, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. Cohesive devices such as 'The primary reason', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there is occasional repetition of phrasing. Referencing is generally clear, though some sentences could be linked more fluidly to improve the overall flow. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the structure supports the development of the argument well.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task and allows for clear communication. You use some topic-specific terms like 'globalisation', 'environmental damage', 'industrial waste', and 'contamination'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a tendency to repeat basic words like 'people', 'clothes', and 'problems'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and less common lexical items (e.g., 'consumerist culture', 'ecological footprint', or 'fast fashion'). There are no significant spelling errors, and the word choices are generally accurate, though they lack variety.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors that persist. For instance, subject-verb agreement issues occur, such as 'This mean that' (should be 'means') and 'industrial waste are sent' (should be 'is sent'). Additionally, there are minor errors with articles and pluralization, such as 'in some part of Asia' (should be 'parts'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing the variety of complex structures and ensuring consistent subject-verb agreement would improve your score.
