Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is an irrefutable fact that fashion has become more famous among the young generations because it is how you carry out yourself in the society. Owing to this, it is claimed by some that internationally recognized fashion trends have effected the way people dress in recent times. Personally, I think so it is because wearing expensive and fashionable clothes are considered as a symbol of personal success and achievement. Moreover, this has drastic impacts on the society due to the fast fashion and buying unnecessary items that effects the local norms and values.

One of the significant reasons for the fact that fashion has influenced people's lives includes in the modern era owning a mansion or a expensive car, wearing costly attires are considered as a sign of personal growth and achievement. Social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok expose consumers to international aesthetics instantly leading them to buy unnecessary items. For instance, a survey was made by a local organization in lahore and it was observed that the young generation prefers to wear modern clothes to blend into the society.

However, despite increasing accessibility, this trend has drastic impacts on the environment and society. The fast fashion model relies on the overconsumption of clothes resulting in the overproduction of attires by the factories; releasing more chemicals into the water making water polluted which results in the loss of habitat for aquatic life as well as not suitable for drinking purposes. Thus, there is a need to overcome the trend of fast fashion.

To sum up, global fashion has influenced the lives of people but personally, i think so there is need to control this trend for the sustainable future of society and aquatic lives.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the influence of global fashion and the evaluation of whether this is positive or negative. The position is clear throughout, particularly regarding the negative environmental impact. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the environmental argument is well-supported, the initial explanation regarding social status is a bit brief. The response would benefit from more detailed examples to fully explore the 'why' behind the influence of global fashion, moving beyond general statements to more nuanced analysis.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'However', and 'Thus' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, there is some mechanical use of these devices, and the transition between the introduction and the first body paragraph could be smoother. Referencing is generally clear, though some sentences feel slightly disjointed due to the phrasing. Overall, the progression of ideas is logical, and the paragraphing is appropriate for the task.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, with some attempts at less common items like 'irrefutable', 'aesthetics', and 'overconsumption'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'effected the way' (should be 'affected') and 'carry out yourself' (should be 'carry yourself'). The repetition of 'attires' and 'fashion' limits the range. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing, ensuring that word choices are consistently natural and accurate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('wearing... are considered'), incorrect verb usage ('effected' instead of 'affected'), and minor punctuation slips. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. The sentence 'Personally, i think so it is because...' is also stylistically weak and grammatically awkward. Increasing the variety of error-free complex structures and proofreading for basic agreement errors would significantly improve this score.
