Student answer (Band 5.5)

In nowadays, the way people dress today are influenced by global fashion trends and their favourite celebrities. In this way, global fashion become a strong influence on people's lives. This essay will describe this view before explaining that why I believe it is a negative development.

Overall, many people influence by those people which they watched and followed so, their dressing sense has inspired them the most. But nowadays, people are promoting western culture and continuosly forgetting about their own culture.

In one hand, individuals has multiple options of clothing in these days. For example, after watching reels related to the styling of dresses people especially females have great options of style their one dress in multiple ways. As a result, they get a great sense of dressing. Moreover, global fashion trends learned them how to dress up according to the events.

On the other hand, many influencers promoting western culture which has a great impact on our socities. For example, in Pakistan, people are focusing too much on western things. The one reason is that our actors are promoting this culture from where the individuals inspired and want to try . But it has negative development because our religion does not permit us to wear tight clothes and today we are doing the same thing. As a result, we are going away from our culture and religion which has a negative development on our socities.

In my opinion, it has a negative development because we just forget our culture and the other cultures are taking sides and spread all over the world. We can watch them but we also have to keep in mind about our culture and norms.

In conclusion, global fashion have great impact on our socities. Some people watch them just for entertaining purposes and others get inspired by them and totally adopt their culture and their dressing sense which is not a good thing.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the influence of global fashion and the evaluation of this as a positive or negative development. The position is clear throughout, focusing on the negative impact on local culture and religion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive, particularly in the discussion of cultural erosion. While the example regarding Pakistan is relevant, the explanation could be more nuanced to reach a higher band. The essay covers all requirements, but the depth of analysis is limited, often relying on general statements rather than fully exploring the complexities of global fashion trends.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In one hand', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion', though some are used incorrectly (e.g., 'In one hand' should be 'On the one hand'). There is some mechanical repetition of phrases like 'it has a negative development', which makes the flow feel slightly stilted. Referencing is generally clear, but the transition between ideas could be smoother to improve the overall progression of the argument. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different aspects of the prompt.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'taking sides and spread all over the world' and 'learned them how to dress up'. The student relies on basic vocabulary and struggles with collocations. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of sophisticated or varied lexical items limits the score. Spelling is generally accurate, but the overall lexical control is limited to common, everyday language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('global fashion become', 'global fashion have'), incorrect preposition usage ('influence by'), and awkward phrasing ('the way people dress today are influenced'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. While the student attempts complex sentences, these are often where the most significant errors occur.
