Student answer (Band 6.0)
The topic of influence by global fashion has become a widely discussed issue in contemporary society. Some people believe that the way people dress today is influenced by global fashion trends and has several advantages, while others argue that it may have certain disadvantages. This essay will critically evaluate the key benefits and drawbacks before reaching a reasoned conclusion.
On the one hand, proponents of global fashion primarily contend that it provides cultural connectivity, which can have a significant impact on unity and individuals' creativity. Additionally, supporters of this development argue that if the global fashion trend influence people live, they can follow the trend. As a result, it can increase retail sales and employment; as a consequence, most of the individuals tend to secure a better life. A pertinent illustration of this can be seen in Japan, where a wide range of individuals are working in the global garment sector, thereby highlighting the tangible benefits of this approach.
On the other hand, one important disadvantage of global fashion trends is that in some cases we are losing our traditional clothes, and local designing company are facing low sales problems. This is mainly because in this modern era most of the young individuals aim to follow the trend, which can ultimately lead to low sell in local products. This further implies that cultural fashion will be demolished day by day, directly influencing the ability of traditional industries to sustain their cultural heritage.
In conclusion, after examining these arguments, I am convinced that the disadvantages are far more significant. While various dimensions surround this issue, the analysis above makes it clear that the drawbacks far outweigh the benefits, primarily because cultural heritage tends to lose its place in this modern society. Therefore, this remains the most practical path forward.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both how global fashion has become a strong influence and evaluating whether this is a positive or negative development. The writer establishes a clear position from the introduction and maintains it through to the conclusion, ultimately deciding that the disadvantages outweigh the advantages. Ideas are generally relevant, though some arguments in the body paragraphs lack sufficient depth or specific development. For instance, the claim that global fashion trends increase retail sales and employment is supported by a brief example regarding Japan, but the link could be more robustly explained. Similarly, the negative impact on traditional clothing is mentioned but remains somewhat generalised. Nevertheless, the requirements of the task are met well overall, aligning with Band 6.5 to 7.0 descriptors, comfortably securing a Band 6.5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph-by-paragraph structure, including a proper introduction, distinct body paragraphs addressing each part of the prompt, and a summarizing conclusion. Cohesive devices are employed to signal transitions, such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion'. However, referencing and cohesion are occasionally mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'if the global fashion trend influence people live' and 'Therefore, this remains the most practical path forward', which feels somewhat abrupt and disconnected from the preceding sentence about cultural heritage. Paragraphing is used logically to separate distinct viewpoints, earning a solid Band 6.5.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, demonstrating an attempt to incorporate less common lexical items such as 'contemporary society', 'cultural connectivity', 'tangible benefits', and 'cultural heritage'. However, there are notable lexical and collocational inaccuracies throughout the response, such as 'local designing company' (instead of companies), 'low sell' (instead of low sales), and 'trend influence people live' (grammatical and lexical awkwardness). Spelling is generally accurate, but word choice errors occasionally surface. The range of vocabulary is sufficient to allow the student to communicate their ideas clearly, matching the Band 6.0 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and relative clauses. However, there are frequent grammatical errors and awkward phrasing that detract from overall accuracy. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('if the global fashion trend influence people live'), pluralisation errors ('local designing company'), and awkward prepositional usage. Punctuation is generally acceptable, and while these errors do not severely impede communication, they occur regularly enough to prevent the essay from reaching Band 7.0. The control of grammar is consistent with a Band 6.0 performance.
