Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing why global fashion has become influential and whether this is a positive or negative development. The writer attempts to explore several ideas, such as social media influencers, psychological impacts like confidence, and societal consequences including financial strain and crime. However, the development of these ideas is hindered by severe issues with clarity and structure. The arguments are presented in a very generalized, disjointed manner, and the transition between positive and negative aspects lacks clear distinction. While the writer attempts to present a position, the lack of coherent support and under-development of arguments pull the task response down. Concepts such as crime resulting from inability to afford trendy clothes are asserted without logical elaboration, resulting in a score that reflects limited development.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
Coherence and cohesion are severely compromised in this essay. The text is written largely as a continuous, massive run-on sentence in the first paragraph, featuring multiple clauses joined clumsily by conjunctions like 'and' without proper punctuation or full stops. The paragraphing is problematic; the second paragraph starts abruptly with 'The concusion is that...', but is then followed by a third block of text that acts more like a continuation of the body rather than a conclusion. Logical organization and progression are missing, and cohesive devices are either absent or inappropriately used. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it very difficult for the reader to follow the flow of arguments from one point to the next, placing it firmly in the lower band range.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The lexical resource is limited and basic. The student uses very simple vocabulary repeatedly, such as 'good', 'trend', 'fashion', 'life', and 'people'. There are frequent word choice and collocation errors, for instance, writing 'Dressing play an improtant rules' instead of playing an important role, and 'keep the good impact on brain'. Spelling errors are scattered throughout the text, including 'important', 'nessary', 'other wise', 'srounding', 'infulencer', 'saticifaction', and 'destory'. Although the writer attempts some less common vocabulary items like 'influencer', 'development', and 'confidence', the high frequency of basic errors and inaccurate word formations restricts the score to this level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
Grammatical control is extremely weak throughout the submission. The first paragraph is essentially a single, unbroken run-on sentence spanning nearly two hundred words, completely lacking necessary terminal punctuation and proper clause separation. There is a near-total absence of accurate complex sentence structures; instead, clauses are strung together with coordinating conjunctions. Numerous basic grammatical errors are present, including subject-verb agreement issues ('Dressing play', 'trend change'), missing auxiliary verbs ('peolpe who not afford'), incorrect tense usage, and pervasive punctuation failures. These frequent errors severely impede communication and disrupt the reading process, warranting a low band score.
