Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is true that the way many people dress today has been influenced by global fashion trends. Social media content is the strongest source that encourages people to follow global trends. I think this is a positive development because people are becoming familiar with international fashion standards, and it is improving their sense of style.
Social media content is now within everyone's reach. People consume this content on accessible digital devices such as smartphones, laptops, and tablets. Because these devices provide easy access to worldwide content, people are becoming accustomed to it. By consuming digital content daily, people are normalizing trends among themselves, even though these trends may not be common in their country. In addition, whenever there is a new trend, content creators across the world create similar trendy videos to get more views, which consumers watch multiple times. The act of watching the same trend multiple times a day influences them. The same goes for fashion trends.
I believe that following global fashion trends is a positive development because people can adapt to the latest styles and familiarize themselves with them. They can experience different dressing styles, which makes them more open-minded towards other cultures. Moreover, they can implement these styles and themes in their own country's fashion, which could revolutionize the clothing industry.
In conclusion, although people initially consume social media trends virtually, this encourages them to try them in real life. Eventually, it will help them become familiar with new clothing styles, and they may even create something unique of their own.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task, examining both the causes of global fashion's strong influence and evaluating whether this development is positive or negative. The introduction clearly states the writer's position, noting that social media is the main driver and that the trend is positive. In the body paragraphs, the student explains how digital devices and content creators normalize trends globally. Furthermore, the writer argues that following these trends is positive because it encourages open-mindedness and cultural awareness, as seen when they write, 'They can experience different dressing styles, which makes them more open-minded towards other cultures.' However, the ideas remain somewhat broad and could benefit from more specific, concrete examples rather than general statements. Despite this minor limitation in depth, all parts of the prompt are covered adequately, aligning well with the Band 6.5 or 7 descriptors. A band score of 6.5 is awarded as the development is slightly generalized.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay displays a clear logical organization and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct focus: the introduction outlines the topic and stance, the second body paragraph explores the causes via social media, the third body paragraph discusses the positive impacts, and the conclusion summarizes the main thoughts. Cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' are used appropriately to guide the reader through the text. Referencing is generally clear, for instance, using 'These devices' to connect back to 'smartphones, laptops, and tablets'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, supporting the overall structure. While the cohesion is occasionally a bit mechanical, the logical flow is well maintained, justifying a Band 7.0 score.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'international fashion standards', 'content creators', 'open-minded', and 'revolutionize the clothing industry'. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, and while word choice is generally clear, some phrasing is a bit repetitive, such as the frequent reuse of 'social media content' and 'global fashion trends'. Minor inaccuracies in collocation or word choice occur, but they do not impede communication. Spelling and word formation are accurate throughout. The lexical range is sufficient for precision and flexibility in most parts, earning a solid Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over relative clauses and conditional-like structures, as seen in 'whenever there is a new trend, content creators across the world create similar trendy videos'. There are frequent error-free sentences, and punctuation is handled well throughout the text. Grammar errors are minimal and do not impede communication, though the sentence structures tend to follow standard patterns rather than displaying a truly wide or adventurous range. Control over grammatical structures is generally good, supporting a Band 7.0 descriptor.
