Student answer (Band 6.5)
Nowadays, global fashion trends have a significant influence on the way people dress. This influence has become particularly strong because of social media, international brands and the easy access to fashion content online. In my opinion, this is a largely positive development, although it can also have some disadvantages.
One major reason why global fashion has become so influential is the rapid growth of social media. Platforms such as Instagram, TikTok and YouTube allow people to see the latest clothing styles from different countries within seconds. In addition, celebrities and influencers regularly promote particular clothes and brands, which encourages their followers to adopt similar styles. Another important factor is the expansion of international fashion companies. Many global brands now sell their products in different countries, making international fashion trends easily accessible to ordinary consumers.
There are several positive aspects to this development. Firstly, global fashion gives people more choices and allows them to experiment with different styles. For example, a person in Pakistan can easily follow Korean, European or American fashion trends and choose clothing that suits their personality. Secondly, international fashion can help people feel more connected to other cultures and societies. However, there are also some negative effects. Some people may spend too much money trying to follow every new trend, while others may feel pressured to look like celebrities or influencers. This can lead to unnecessary consumption and dissatisfaction with one's appearance.
In conclusion, global fashion has become a powerful influence mainly because of social media, international brands and global communication. Although it can encourage excessive spending and social pressure, I believe its wider effect is positive because it provides people with greater freedom and variety in their clothing choices.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response fully addresses all parts of the prompt, exploring both the reasons for the global influence of fashion (such as social media and international brands) and giving a clear opinion on whether this development is positive or negative. A clear position is maintained throughout the essay. The introduction establishes the main points, and the body paragraphs logically extend and support these ideas with relevant examples, such as how a person in Pakistan can adopt Korean or European styles, and the negative consequences of consumerism and social pressure. The ideas are well-developed and fulfil all requirements of Band 7.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Information and ideas are coherently arranged with each paragraph having a clear central topic. Cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'Another important factor', 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'However' are used effectively to link ideas and guide the reader. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, separating the introduction, reasons, positive and negative aspects, and conclusion distinctly. Referencing is clear and accurate across the entire text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The writer uses a sufficient range of vocabulary that allows for flexibility and precision. Less common lexical items and collocations are used appropriately, such as 'rapid growth', 'ordinary consumers', 'unnecessary consumption', and 'excessive spending'. There are only occasional minor limitations, but the vocabulary is adequate to convey precise meanings clearly. Spelling and word choice are accurate throughout, demonstrating a strong control of topic-specific vocabulary appropriate for an IELTS Band 7 level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response features a good variety of complex structures alongside simple sentences, showing good overall control of grammar and punctuation. Examples of complex structures include 'Platforms such as Instagram, TikTok and YouTube allow people to see...' and 'Although it can encourage excessive spending and social pressure, I believe...'. There are frequent error-free sentences, and the few minor errors that persist do not impede communication. The control over complex clauses and tense consistency is well-maintained, aligning closely with Band 7 descriptors.
