Student answer (Band 6.0)

These days, people wear clothes based on fashion trends brought by globalization. Through social media influence, more and more consumers hooked by the different trendy wears available online. In my opinion, this dilemma depends on how an individual manage to weigh the good and the bad effects of purchasing wearables.

Ultimately, men and women wore dress to express themselves. One factor is through online shopping in different social media platforms. These have marketing strategies such as live selling, videos, and fashion icons promotion on televisions.

On one hand, there is a negative effect if not managed well. There are consumers who practice impulsive buying. For instance, just because it is the trending style bought by many, they buy it without thinking if an item is really essential in the long run.

On the other hand, there is also a positive effect of keeping on trend. This means that they wear because they want to express their preference. For example, wearing beautiful dresses in public would boost their confidence.

However, in my perspective, everyone is free to wear what they want. That being said, human being should consider the things that would help them practice a balance consumerism. If buying things is really necessary there isn't a problem but if it doesn't have the urgency then better plan ahead to avoid budget cut or money delays.

To recapitulate, there is nothing wrong in participating different famous styles as long as it is vital the daily needs. It must be well decided to prevent regrets and dismay.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, exploring how global fashion spreads through social media and marketing, and offering a perspective on whether this development is positive or negative. The writer develops a clear position in the introduction, noting that the impact depends on individual management of consumer habits. However, the ideas are somewhat limited and under-developed, particularly in the body paragraphs where points about impulse buying and personal expression remain relatively brief and rely on generalized examples rather than deep extension. While the prompt is adequately covered, the overall depth aligns best with Band 6.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate distinct ideas, such as the negative and positive aspects of fashion trends. However, cohesion at the sentence level is occasionally mechanical or awkward, as seen in transitions like 'On one hand' and 'On the other hand'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, for instance in the phrase 'This means that they wear because...', where the pronoun lacks a precise antecedent. Overall, the logical progression is evident, but the cohesive devices and referencing require better integration.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms like 'globalization', 'impulse buying', and 'consumerism'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation errors that detract from the precision of the writing. Examples include 'consumers hooked by' (missing verb), 'wore dress to express' (incorrect pluralization/collocation), 'keeping on trend' instead of 'keeping up with trends', and 'budget cut or money delays'. These inaccuracies do not completely impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score to the Band 6 level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over sentence structure with sentences like 'In my opinion, this dilemma depends on how an individual manage to weigh...'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('an individual manage', 'human being should'), missing auxiliary verbs ('is really necessary there isn't'), and awkward phrasing ('participating different famous styles'). Punctuation and article use also show lapses. These errors occasionally cause slight difficulty for the reader, placing the grammar performance firmly within Band 5.
