Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: how global fashion influences people and whether this is positive or negative. A clear position is stated in the introduction, supporting the view that global fashion is beneficial. However, the development of ideas is limited and repetitive, which prevents the essay from reaching higher bands. While the writer attempts to provide examples, such as referencing an 'international survey conducted in Japan' and a quote from the 'Prime Minister of Russia,' these examples lack specificity and are unconvincing. The arguments rely heavily on repetitive claims regarding 'better clothes,' 'economic benefit,' and 'industry development' without exploring these concepts in sufficient depth or extending the reasoning beyond superficial statements. Consequently, the task response remains somewhat undeveloped, fitting the criteria for Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into an introduction, three body paragraphs, and a conclusion, showing basic paragraphing structure. However, there is a clear lack of overall progression and cohesion is frequently faulty and mechanical. The writer relies heavily on repetitive transitional phrases such as 'Firstly,' 'Secondly,' and 'Finally,' but the internal linking of sentences is weak. Referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly with demonstrative pronouns and repetition of phrases like 'this development a positive development' across multiple paragraphs. The conclusion attempts to summarize the main points, but the mechanical nature of the cohesive devices and the lack of fluid logical progression between sentences keep the essay at a Band 5.0 level.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, with frequent reliance on words like 'benefit,' 'development,' and 'clothes.' There are noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'human dress sense are influenced the fashion of global trends' and 'industry manufacture are best quality of clothes.' The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'international survey' and 'economic benefit,' but lacks the control required for higher bands. While communication is not severely impeded and the meaning can generally be understood, the limited range and persistent lexical inaccuracies place this response firmly in the Band 5.0 category.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are numerous grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'human dress sense are influenced,' 'the economy of Russia are continually increased') and prepositional errors. Furthermore, fragments and awkwardly constructed clauses appear frequently, such as 'As industry manufacture are best quality of clothes' and 'industry development can labelled this development a positive development.' These frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader and demonstrate poor control over basic and complex sentence forms, corresponding to a Band 4.5 or rounded to Band 5.0.
