Student answer (Band 6.0)
Globally. fashion trends are influencing people in various ways including dressing and social media has a huge role in this. Many people think it has negative impacts while some says it is a positive development. In my opinion it a a positive thing that people are dressing according to global fashion trends.
Fashion is not about being dressed up, it also shows how well maintained a person is. People are influencing through social media platforms where they see new trends on instagram, tiktoks, and other applications. People prefer to look stylish and chic when to go out with friends and family. Moreover it gives people a wider variety of clothing styles. For examples, people from Pakistan can get idea of international fashion trends. Furthermore there are many fashion clothing websites where people can shop fashionable attire such as Temu and Shein.
On the other hand, global fashion can encourage excessive consumerism. People may feel pressured to purchase new clothes frequently simply because their existing outfits are no longer considered fashionable. For instance, some teenagers buy new clothes every few months after seeing celebrities or influencers promoting the latest trends. This can lead to unnecessary spending and increase textile waste.
Also, people spend more money on their dressing and fashion as they believe their clothes need to be updated with the arrival of new fashion trend.
In conclusion, global fashion has become a powerful influence mainly because of social media, international brands and the easy exchange of ideas between countries. Although it provides people with greater choice and opportunities for self-expression, whereas its negative effects, particularly excessive consumption and textile waste, should be carefully controlled.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The student addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing why global fashion has become a strong influence and giving a clear opinion on whether this is a positive or negative development. The writer's position is maintained throughout the essay. Ideas are presented and supported with relevant examples, such as mentioning platforms like Instagram and TikTok, as well as specific clothing websites like Temu and Shein. The counter-argument regarding excessive consumerism and textile waste is also well-integrated. However, some ideas, such as the final body paragraph discussing spending habits, slightly overlap with the previous paragraph on consumerism, leading to minor under-development in terms of distinct supporting points. Overall, the response meets all the core requirements of Task 2.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is coherent overall with a clear logical progression from introduction to body paragraphs and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with distinct paragraphs dedicated to the causes, the positive aspects, and the negative consequences. Cohesive devices are employed to link ideas, such as 'Moreover', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion'. However, there are some minor mechanical errors in referencing and cohesive ties, such as the fragmented sentence structure at the beginning ('Globally. fashion trends...') and the phrasing in the conclusion 'whereas its negative effects', which disrupts the flow of the complex sentence structure. Despite these occasional slips, the logical flow is generally maintained throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items related to the topic, such as 'excessive consumerism', 'fashionable attire', 'self-expression', and 'textile waste'. There are, however, some noticeable word choice and collocation inaccuracies throughout the text, such as 'People are influencing through social media platforms' (instead of 'influenced') and 'spend more money on their dressing' (instead of 'on clothes' or 'attire'). Spelling is generally accurate, but minor slips in grammar-lexis boundaries occur. The vocabulary used is sufficient to communicate the central ideas clearly, placing it comfortably within the Band 6 range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and conditional structures. Examples of complex sentences include 'People may feel pressured to purchase new clothes frequently simply because their existing outfits are no longer considered fashionable.' However, there are several grammatical errors and punctuation slips, such as 'Globally. fashion trends...', 'it a a positive thing', 'People are influencing through', and the faulty clause structure in the concluding sentence ('Although it provides... whereas its negative effects...'). While these errors are noticeable and detract from grammatical accuracy, they do not impede overall communication. The mixture of accurate structures and persistent errors aligns well with the Band 6 descriptors.
