One major reason why global fashion has become so influential is the rapid growth of social media and digital platforms. Websites and applications such as Instagram, TikTok and YouTube allow people to see new clothing styles from different parts of the world almost instantly. Celebrities, influencers and fashion bloggers can introduce a particular style to millions of people, making trends spread much faster than in the past. In addition, international clothing companies have expanded into numerous countries, giving consumers access to similar products regardless of where they live. As a result, fashion has become increasingly globalised.
There are several positive aspects to this trend. Firstly, global fashion gives people a greater variety of choices and allows them to experiment with different styles. It can also encourage cultural exchange, as people become familiar with clothing traditions and designs from other countries. Furthermore, following international trends can help individuals express their personality and feel connected to wider social groups. For young people in particular, fashion can be an important form of self-expression.
However, this development can also have negative consequences. The constant pressure to follow the latest trends may encourage excessive consumerism, as people purchase new clothes simply because their existing ones are no longer fashionable. This can lead to financial waste and contribute to environmental problems associated with the production and disposal of clothing. Moreover, the popularity of global trends may gradually reduce interest in traditional or locally distinctive forms of dress. Some individuals may also feel pressured to look a certain way in order to fit in with their peers or online communities.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt, investigating both the causes of global fashion's strong influence and evaluating whether this trend is positive or negative. In the body paragraphs, the student provides clear reasons regarding social media, globalization, variety, and cultural exchange, while also balancing this with negative consequences such as consumerism and environmental impact. The position is maintained throughout the essay. However, the introduction and conclusion are extremely brief and contain noticeable errors, meaning the ideas could have been further extended and developed to fully reach a higher band. Overall, the content demonstrates a good understanding of the task requirements, earning a band 6.5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph structure. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, moving logically from an introduction to causes, positive aspects, negative aspects, and a brief conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'One major reason', 'In addition', 'As a result', 'Firstly', 'Furthermore', and 'However' are used to guide the reader through the arguments, although some referencing is occasionally mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. While the logical progression is generally maintained, the weak linking in the final sentence disrupts the flow at the very end of the essay. Nonetheless, the organizational structure is solid, corresponding to a band 6.5.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating topic-specific terms such as 'global fashion trends', 'social media', 'consumerism', 'environmental problems', and 'self-expression'. There are several attempts to use less common vocabulary, though this is sometimes marred by word-choice errors and spelling mistakes, such as 'peoples dess' instead of 'people's dress' and 'faishon' instead of 'fashion'. Additionally, phrases like 'domnace to people's' in the conclusion show strain in lexical control. Despite these inaccuracies, communication is rarely impeded, and the vocabulary remains minimally adequate to convey the intended meaning, fitting the band 6.0 descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures appropriately in sentences such as 'Websites and applications such as Instagram, TikTok and YouTube allow people to see new clothing styles...' However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in basic grammar, articles, and word forms, such as 'Global faishon become strong influnce to people lives' and the concluding sentence 'People's dress about they feel their idanty...', which contains severe grammatical breakdowns. While complex structures are attempted with varying success, the frequency of basic errors places this essay firmly in the band 5.5 category.
