Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing how global fashion influences people's lives through social media and advertising, and providing a clear opinion that this is a positive development. A position is maintained throughout the essay. However, the ideas are somewhat generalized and lack fully developed supporting evidence. For instance, the discussion on clothing brands spending large amounts of profit remains at a surface level, and the philosophical leap regarding 'Homo Sapiens being alive' is slightly underdeveloped in terms of academic rigor. Nevertheless, all parts of the task are covered sufficiently, placing this performance at Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear division into paragraphs. Each body paragraph has a distinct focus, introduced by signposting language such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Moreover'. However, cohesion at the sentence level is occasionally faulty or mechanical. For example, referencing is sometimes imprecise, as seen in phrases like 'have some job to do when deciding all' and the abrupt transitions between sentences in the second paragraph. Paragraphing is used appropriately to structure the argument, but the logical progression between ideas lacks seamless flow, warranting a Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'fluctuating', 'broadcasting', and 'uniformity'. However, there are numerous noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that detract from the quality of the writing, such as 'dessing' for dressing, 'global' for the globe, 'differenciating', 'mases' for masses, 'sepnding', 'costumers' for customers, 'bill borads', 'adds' for ads, 'Spien's' for sapien's, 'numerious', and 'uilimate'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they restrict the lexical score to a Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including missing articles ('have great impact', 'play vital role'), incorrect prepositions ('across global'), subject-verb agreement issues ('social media have', 'mankind have'), and punctuation mistakes. For example, writing 'media in human lives; lives across globe are fluctuating' demonstrates faulty structural control. These errors frequently recur, causing some difficulty for the reader, which aligns with the Band 5.0 descriptors.
