Student answer (Band 5.5)

Many aspects of the way people dress today are influenced by global fashion trends. This influence has particular strong because of social media and international brand and increasing connection between different cultures. Although global fashion has some negative effect, but i believe that overall this is a positive thing because this trend give people to more choice and encourage them culture exchange.

The one major reason of this trend is rapid growth of social media, Platform such as Tiktok Facebook Instagram allow peoples to see their celebrities, influencers and ordinary people dress in different part of world, as a result this fashion trend spread all around in very little time, and also international prefers these social media platform to advertised their products, and impress public. For instance, a particular type of jacket or pair of shoes wore by a popular celebrity can quick fashionable among young in many countries.

Online shopping is another factor, it allow people to buy anything online instead of travel to other country, people can buy different brand item easily using through different site or online platform like amazon ebay or daraz. another reason is brand allow businessman to sell their product in their country. Moreover young population also impress with television program and song concerts which impact teenagers fashion. Therefore globalisation has made fashion less local and more international.

As for my perspective, this development is mostly positive, because because it allow consumer to buy more thing online, people can buy thing according to their personality rather than being limited traditional style available in their local area.

In conclusion, global fashion has become a powerful influence mainly because of social media, international brands, online shopping and greater cultural interaction. Despite encouraging consumerism in some cases, I believe its wider effects are positive because it provides greater choice and facilitates cultural exchange.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: how global fashion influences people's lives and whether this development is positive or negative. The writer takes a clear position that the trend is largely positive because it offers greater choice and encourages cultural exchange. Ideas are supported with relevant examples, such as social media platforms like TikTok and online shopping sites like Amazon and eBay. However, some of the explanation is repetitive, particularly regarding online shopping and brand availability in paragraphs two and three. While all parts of the task are addressed, the depth of idea development is somewhat limited and occasionally drifts into minor generalisations. Overall, the performance aligns well with the requirements for Band 6.0, as it presents a relevant position and addresses all parts of the prompt adequately despite some under-developed sections.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is generally coherent with a clear overall structure, including a distinct introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is utilised to separate distinct ideas, such as the role of social media, online shopping, and the personal perspective on whether the trend is positive. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. For instance, the use of transition words like 'Although global fashion has some negative effect, but i believe' contains a double-marking error. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, and paragraph transitions feel abrupt in places. Furthermore, the repetition of ideas across paragraphs disrupts the logical progression of the argument. These features place the response firmly in the Band 6.0 category, where the arrangement is coherent overall, but cohesive devices are sometimes misused or mechanical.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student displays an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms like 'globalisation', 'consumerism', 'cultural exchange', and 'influencers'. There are successful attempts to use less common vocabulary, but these are accompanied by noticeable word-choice and morphological inaccuracies. Examples include writing 'particular strong' instead of 'particularly strong', 'international prefers' instead of 'international brands', and 'wore by' instead of 'worn by'. Spelling errors such as 'Tiktok Facebook Instagram' (lack of punctuation/conjunctions) and awkward phrasing like 'young in many countries' also appear. Despite these lapses, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning without severely impeding communication. This performance corresponds to Band 5.5, showing a mix of adequate resource and frequent lexical errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilising structures with 'although', 'because', and relative clauses. However, grammatical accuracy is weak. There are frequent errors in tense, agreement, and word forms, such as 'this trend give people to more choice', 'Platform such as... allow peoples to see', and 'people can buy different brand item easily using through different site'. Punctuation is also problematic, notably run-on sentences and missing commas in compound structures (e.g., 'Online shopping is another factor, it allow people...'). While the basic meaning usually remains understandable, the high frequency of non-systematic errors prevents the writer from achieving a higher band. Consequently, a score of 5.0 is appropriate, reflecting an attempt at complex structures that are frequently faulty and cause some difficulty for the reader.
