Student answer (Band 4.5)

So people are influenced by global fashion and they don't even now discover their own culture they wear what they see are im fashion for example nowadays baggy jeans is in fashion globally people wear baggy jeans before that people used wear skinny jeans that was removed from the fashion because too much people were wearing it and as everyone was wearing it got boring and as the upcoming year were coming heat wss increasing so people switched from baggy jeans to skinny jeans and because everyone is getting influenced by global fashion they don't even know how fascinating their culture is!.i am from Pakistan and i am Sindhi because i am sindhi and our history and culture is so fascinating but because everyone is getting influenced by global fashion no one is bothering to learn their own culture my culture has a sindhi hat which is called Sindhi topi and a shawl which is caleed ajrak and ajrak is the respect of our culture

which is. a negative impact on our society because if upcoming generation don't about where they have come from or which roots they belong to that can be a shame

so in conclusion because of global fashion people are forgetting their own culture and where they have come from there is nothing wrong in wearing different countries's clothes but forgetting our own cam be very wrong that's why in my opinion people should do both a little fashion so they cant get et bullied and also they should learn about where they have come from too

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: how global fashion influences lives and whether this is positive or negative. The writer discusses trends like baggy versus skinny jeans and then pivots to cultural heritage, introducing specific examples such as the Sindhi topi and ajrak. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and disorganized. The position is stated, but the arguments rely heavily on personal anecdote and lack broader academic extension. The ideas are relevant and touch upon globalization versus cultural identity, but the overall task coverage remains at a basic level, aligning best with Band 5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The text suffers significantly from a lack of proper punctuation and paragraphing. The entire response is written as a nearly continuous block of text with run-on sentences, such as 'before that people used wear skinny jeans that was removed from the fashion because too much people were wearing it and as everyone was wearing it got boring...'. Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, relying heavily on endless conjunctions like 'and' rather than structured transitions. There is an attempt at overall organization by moving from global trends to a personal example and a conclusion, but the lack of paragraph breaks and mechanical cohesion restricts the coherence to a Band 4 level.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is generally basic and repetitive, utilizing everyday terms such as 'big', 'fashion', 'culture', and 'wearing'. There are some attempts to introduce topic-specific or less common vocabulary such as 'fascinating', 'globalization' (implied), 'respect', and cultural terms like 'Sindhi topi' and 'ajrak'. However, frequent word choice errors, such as 'now discover' instead of 'preserve' or 'explore', and awkward collocations limit the precision of the writing. Spelling and word formation are generally functional, allowing meaning to come through despite the lexical limitations, which places this firmly at Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

Grammatically, the response is heavily flawed by a lack of punctuation, missing capitalization at the beginning of sentences, and extreme run-on sentences containing multiple clauses joined only by coordinating conjunctions. Structures are predominantly simple or poorly controlled attempts at complex sentences, such as 'because if upcoming generation don't about where they have come from or which roots they belong to that can be a shame'. There are frequent errors in verb tense and agreement, including 'people used wear' and 'too much people'. These persistent errors cause noticeable difficulty for the reader and reflect Band 4 descriptor standards.
