Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both the reasons for global fashion's influence (social media, influencers) and whether it is a positive or negative development by weighing advantages like economic growth and self-expression against drawbacks like cultural loss and environmental impact. However, the ideas are somewhat limited and lack deep extension, often remaining at a general level. Furthermore, the response falls short of the 250-word minimum, containing only 228 words, which impacts the overall development of the task. Because of the under-length penalty and the under-developed supporting examples, the response achieves a Band 5.0 for this criterion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into four paragraphs, following a logical layout of introduction, two body paragraphs covering opposing views, and an incomplete conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'The positive side', 'Beside that', and 'In conclusion', but some are awkward or inaccurate, such as starting a paragraph with 'Beside that'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the final sentence breaks off mid-thought. Paragraphing is attempted, but overall progression is hindered by mechanical transitions and the truncated ending. These features align closely with the Band 5 descriptors.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'self expression', 'consumerism', 'overconsumption', and 'cultural exchange'. However, there are frequent word-choice and collocation errors, such as 'beleived' instead of 'believe', 'opionion' instead of 'opinion', 'inspire' instead of 'inspired', and 'vitual' instead of 'vital'. Spelling errors are noticeable throughout the text ('todays', 'diffrent', 'standarized', 'financial pressurebecause'). The range is limited, and these lexical inadequacies place the response firmly in the Band 5 category.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent errors in punctuation, subject-verb agreement, and missing articles, such as 'In todays generation', 'trend influenced the people the way', 'its make people confident', and 'if we use it it a proper way'. Sentences containing complex clauses often feature structural faults. Punctuation is largely neglected, particularly regarding missing commas and run-on sentences. These frequent errors cause occasional difficulty for the reader, matching the Band 5 descriptors.
