Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, containing only 139 words. Because of this severe under-length, the task is addressed only partially, and the ideas are severely limited and under-developed. While the student attempts to touch upon both prompts—discussing how global fashion influences lives through media and marketing, and offering a perspective on whether this is positive or negative—the arguments remain underdeveloped and lack sufficient supporting evidence. The introduction is unclear and fragmented, making it difficult to fully discern a well-structured position throughout the essay. As a result, the criteria for a higher band cannot be met due to the lack of adequate extension and development of ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay displays some basic attempts at logical organization, utilizing transition signals such as 'Firstly', 'moreover', and 'on the other hand'. However, the overall progression is disrupted by the short, fragmented nature of the paragraphs and incomplete development of thoughts. Paragraphing is weak; the essay collapses what should be multiple distinct points into just two brief blocks of text. Furthermore, referencing and cohesive devices are sometimes faulty or mechanical, such as the abrupt introduction of the example regarding Rajasthan without proper contextual bridging. While the text remains partially understandable, the lack of coherent arrangement keeps the score at this level.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student demonstrates a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary for addressing the topic, utilizing terms such as 'fashion trend', 'heritage dressing style', and 'western culture'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors, inappropriate word choices, and awkward collocations throughout the text. For instance, phrases like 'mindset on dressing sense', 'getting change or attracted from fashion trend', and 'protrating image' (likely intending 'portraying') strain the reader's understanding. Less common lexical items are attempted, but they frequently lack precision and natural collocation, placing this performance firmly in the lower-middle band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The writing exhibits a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent errors in complex constructions. There are persistent mistakes in subject-verb agreement, tense usage, and article placement, such as 'fashion trend showed up', 'has make huge impact', and 'cloth as heritage dressing style'. The frequency of these grammatical errors causes noticeable difficulty for the reader and obscures meaning in places. Although simple sentences occasionally convey the intended message, the high density of structural errors prevents the response from achieving a higher band.
