Student answer (Band 5.5)

Global fashion trends are influencing the people too much and these tends are changing day by day not only in the dressing sense, these trends have huge impact in every field of life i.e in travelling, eating, dressing and businesses.

In this modern era everyone is using social media and Netflix .These platforms are root cause of these trends. Most of the youngsters are influenced by their social media stars and favorite film and drama heros and heroines.

Now a days ,As a new trend gets viral on social media platforms, many people start trying that trending dress. It could be a dressing trend or something else also. For example in earlier decades there was trend to wear the narrow jeans which is now changed to baggy jeans, last year there was trend of "farshi shalwar" that looks too odd.

Have a look around on the business tycons , they are also influenced by the different trends. In past decades business men used to wear suits but now they have suits of different designs different fashion collections.

In this era everyone is under the influence of the trends, from a student to the politicians, job holders , medical staff and drivers everyone is following the trends in dressings

Fashion designer are playing a key role in all the dressing trends, they sponser different film stars, hosts, models and social media stars to create new trends. These designers organize different fashion shows to promote their designs and these designs become trends.

I think these trends have positive as well as negative impact on the society.Due to these changing trends we have forgot our cultural values and our identity. But in the race of these trends some people have improved their dressing sense.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing how global fashion has gained influence through social media and media figures, and offering a perspective on whether this is positive or negative. The position is generally clear, concluding that while it helps improve personal presentation, it erodes cultural identity. However, some ideas are somewhat under-developed and rely on generalisations without deep extension. For instance, the transition from general trends to business tycoons and politicians feels disjointed rather than fully supported. The examples provided, such as the shift from narrow jeans to baggy jeans and the mention of 'farshi shalwar', are relevant, but the overall depth of argumentation aligns best with Band 6 descriptors where parts of the task are addressed, but development could be more rigorous and sustained throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay demonstrates an overall coherent arrangement, but the paragraphing and use of cohesive devices show significant weaknesses. The introduction is broken into a very short two-sentence paragraph, and the body paragraphs are fragmented, often consisting of just one or two sentences (e.g., 'Have a look around on the business tycons...'). There is a lack of smooth transitions between paragraphs, and referencing is sometimes unclear, such as abruptly shifting from everyday trends to business professionals without clear linking phrases. While the logical flow can be followed, the mechanical division of text and basic cohesive relationships place this response firmly in the Band 5 category, where organisation lacks clear overall progression and paragraphing is inadequate.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms like 'modern era', 'social media stars', and 'cultural values'. However, there are noticeable limitations and inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'influencing the people too much', 'tends' instead of 'trends', 'business tycons', and 'sponser'. There are also frequent punctuation and spacing errors surrounding commas and full stops that distract from the vocabulary. Although the lexical selection is minimally adequate to convey the writer's meaning, the presence of these errors and a lack of sophisticated, less common lexical items prevent the response from achieving a higher band, making Band 5.5 a fair reflection of the lexical control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'In this modern era everyone is using social media and Netflix' and 'Due to these changing trends we have forgot our cultural values'. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors in punctuation, run-on sentences, missing articles, and subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Fashion designer are playing', 'business men', 'forgot' instead of 'forgotten'). Punctuation errors are particularly prominent, with spaces placed incorrectly before commas and missing capitals. Because frequent errors persist and control over complex structures is inconsistent, causing some difficulty for the reader, the grammar performance aligns with Band 5.0 descriptors.
