Student answer (Band 5.5)

A wide range of people style themselves by the influence of global fashion trends. It is widely spread because of social media platforms such as instagram, Tiktok and many other apps.

The impact of global fashion trends comes from so many celebrities and influencers, Millions of people follow them and admire thier lifestyles. While there are some benifits of this trend, The drawbacks are more significant. Following global fashion trends on social media is benificial this is because everybody should know what is currently in fashion. Knowing about dressing and lifestyle trends can change your personality.

However, the major negative impact is loss of culture for instance, In Pakistan the Europian culture and dresses are overshadowing thier culure and dresses like Shalwar Kameez. Another isssue is financial and phsycological problem, So many teenagers spend thier pocket money and whole earnings just to follow this trend while, some of them pressure thier parents to buy them these clothes.

Moreover a bunch of people do not allow thier children to wear eastern dresses especially in Pakistan. This leads to family conflicts and arguments. This restrictions make kids stubborn as they wants to follow trends. Lastly the major reason is children's mental health, If any kid who is sufering from any problem like financial problem or strictness of parents will see his friends following this trend will make him mentally ill, This will automatically lead him to depression.

In conclusion, I agree that global fashion trends are important to know what is currently in fashion, In my opinion these clothes should be cost friendly and accessible to everybody as this will help teenagers to follow fashion trends without giving pressure to thier parents or themselves.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: how global fashion became influential and whether it is a positive or negative development. The student identifies social media and influencers as main drivers and presents a clear position that the negative consequences outweigh the benefits, supporting this with examples such as traditional dress in Pakistan. However, some ideas lack full extension and are slightly repetitive, such as the focus on teenagers and financial pressures. The arguments are relevant and cover all prompt requirements, but depth of development is characteristic of a Band 6.0 performance.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay is arranged into logical paragraphs with an introduction, body paragraphs addressing different aspects, and a conclusion. However, paragraphing and cohesive devices are sometimes faulty or mechanical. For instance, sentences are occasionally linked awkwardly, as seen in 'Following global fashion trends on social media is benificial this is because...' which displays a comma splice and run-on structure. Referencing is generally clear, but transitional phrases are basic and repetitive ('Moreover', 'Lastly', 'Another isssue'), placing the response firmly at Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'overshadowing' and 'financial and phsycological problem'. However, there are numerous spelling errors throughout the text (e.g., 'instagram', 'Tiktok', 'thier', 'benifits', 'benificial', 'isssue', 'phsycological', 'sufering') and some awkward word choices. While these errors do not completely impede communication, their frequency prevents the score from reaching Band 6.5, making Band 5.5 a fair reflection of lexical control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar and punctuation is inconsistent. There are frequent punctuation errors, including run-on sentences and comma splices (e.g., 'While there are some benifits of this trend, The drawbacks are more significant' and 'If any kid... will make him mentally ill, This will automatically lead him to depression'). Subject-verb agreement and pluralisation issues also occur ('This restrictions make kids stubborn'). Because errors are noticeable and cause some difficulty, the performance aligns with Band 5.0.
