Student answer (Band 6.0)

Several factors that contribute to the way people wear clothes and follow fashion nowadays can be attributed to the effects of worldwide fashion trends. While I think people today are better positioned to keep up with the trends due to globalisation and higher disposable income, it also poses many dangers and negative development.

The primary reasons for the increase in popularity in fashion is due to globalisation, higher production capabilities and social media. Globalisation has allowed access for people from all around the world to buy garments and cloths designed and manufatured elsewhere. Furthermore,Social media and influencers like movie stars, atheletes are often at the forefront for marketing and creating such trends and needs among the users. Consequently, clothing companies capitlise on these demands with increased productivity and distribution.

On the other hand, such trends can have negative effects on many sections of people especially people from lower income or disadvantaged conditions. This can futher aggreviate the divide among different social classes. In addition, keeping up with fast fashion puts a greater load on the environment as the fashion indsutry is one of the largest greenhouse contributer. Moreover, most of the used and unused clothes end up in landfil or garbage which worsens the problems.

Overall, fast fashion and trends that contribute towards it has a negative consequence. Governments and authorities should place guidelines on the uncontrolled prouction and regulations has to be set up on the aggresive marketing and advertising strategies. People needs to be educated about their choice and awareness about recycling needs to imparted.

In conclusion, although global fashion now reach a wider audience and influence their dressing sense, it poses great damage on the environment and certain groups of people .Therefore the disadvantages outweigh the advantages.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses both parts of the prompt, exploring the causes of global fashion's influence—such as globalisation and social media—and presenting a clear position that its negative environmental and social impacts make it a negative development. The student states in the introduction, 'it also poses many dangers and negative development,' and reaffirms this view in the conclusion. Ideas are extended with relevant examples regarding fast fashion, class divides, and greenhouse gas contributions. While some arguments could benefit from further depth, the response meets the criteria for Band 7 by addressing all parts of the prompt with a clear position throughout, though there is a slight tendency to over-generalise in the final body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay presents a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Information and ideas are arranged coherently, with each paragraph serving a distinct purpose in developing the argument. The student makes effective use of cohesive devices to guide the reader, such as 'Furthermore,' 'Consequently,' 'On the other hand,' and 'In addition.' Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, separating the introduction, causes, negative effects, proposed solutions, and conclusion. Although referencing is occasionally mechanical, the overall progression is clear, supporting a solid Band 7 performance for cohesion and logical sequencing.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'globalisation,' 'disposable income,' 'greenhouse contributer,' and 'capitlise.' However, there are several spelling and word-choice errors that detract from precision, including 'manufatured' instead of manufactured, 'atheletes' instead of athletes, 'capitlise' instead of capitalise, 'futher' instead of further, 'aggreviate' instead of aggravate, 'indusutry' instead of industry, 'landfil' instead of landfill, 'prouction' instead of production, and 'aggresive' instead of aggressive. Despite these errors, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning without severely impeding communication, aligning with the Band 6 descriptor.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and relative clauses, such as 'While I think people today are better positioned...'. However, there are frequent grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the text. Examples include punctuation errors like the comma splice and missing space in 'Furthermore,Social media', spelling-induced morphological slips, subject-verb agreement issues in 'People needs to be educated', and awkward phrasing like 'global fashion now reach a wider audience'. There is also a lack of control over pluralisation and verb forms in places like 'regulations has to be set up'. Because these errors occasionally disrupt the flow and require effort from the reader, the grammar falls into the Band 5 to Band 6 range, comfortably sitting at a Band 5.5 due to the mix of accurate complex structures and persistent basic errors.
