Global fashion trends have been influencing many aspects of life including the outfits people wear. This essay will explore the main causes and argue the drivers causing it. Personally, i strongly believe that it is negatively affecting people's lives.
Today, individuals are captivated by recent fashion trends. This is largely happening due to the social media and fast fashion industry. Firstly, people are exposed to fashion by social media platforms where people are exposed to trends by digital content creaters. They show people the latest trends by advertising for fashion companies. This increases the urge among people to purchase trendy items . The other main driver is fast fashion industry which is constantly manufacturing catching products knowing the ongoing demands. This ultimately boost the fast fashion industry.
However, the fast fashion trend has caused negative impacts both on consumers and environment. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing the causes of global fashion's strong influence and taking a clear negative stance. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed. For instance, the student identifies social media and the fast fashion industry as key drivers behind modern fashion consumption. Furthermore, the consequences of this trend are examined from both consumer and environmental perspectives. However, some of the supporting points tend to over-generalise or remain slightly under-developed, such as the brief mention of decreased productivity without further elaboration. Overall, the prompt is covered adequately, placing the response firmly at a Band 6.5 to 7.0 level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a clear overall progression and logical organisation. Paragraphing is utilised to separate the introduction, the causes, the negative impacts, and the conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'However', and 'To sum-up' are employed to guide the reader through the text, though some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive in structure. Referencing is generally clear, as seen in sentences like 'This is largely happening due to the social media and fast fashion industry.' While paragraphing and logical flow are effective, the occasional awkward transition keeps the score at a solid Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'captivated', 'manufacturing', 'environmental concerns', and 'resource depletion'. However, there are notable spelling and word-choice errors that prevent a higher band, such as 'creaters' instead of creators, 'productivety' instead of productivity, and 'peope' instead of people. Additionally, collocation and phrasing show minor inaccuracies, such as 'depleted on a faster rate' rather than 'at a faster rate'. Despite these errors, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning clearly without impeding communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over multi-clause structures, as seen in 'If people constantly chase fashion, it will decrease their productivety...' However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent due to several recurring errors. There are capitalization issues such as 'i' instead of 'I', punctuation faults like missing commas before introductory phrases, and agreement or article slips such as 'fast fashion industry' missing the definite article. Furthermore, fragment sentences like 'It also raise environmental concerns...' indicate a lack of careful proofreading. These errors occasionally disrupt the reading flow, reflecting a Band 6.0 performance.
