Student answer (Band 5.0)
Many people argued that fast fashion trends have become a significant influence on people's styling these days. This influence has grown considerably due to the widespread use of social media, international brands and global communication. In my perspective, the global fashion influence effects negatively to the society espacially youngsters.
World's fashion has been evolved dramtically over few decades, and in every era people tries to match those fashion movements. Fashion industries aim to influence people by famous TV stars and shows, it is now much more easier to impact people choices with social media. Platforms such as Instagram, Tiktok and facebook allow people to see clothing style from different countries within a second. Celebrities and influencers regularly promote particular brands and styles, encouraging their followers to purchase similar garments. We are living in the influencers world and almost every second person unconsciously impacted by the makers and people lost their uniqueness and individuality by chasing the trends, everyone look similar..
Another harmful impact is that the fast fashion operates primarily as a business therefor, manufacturing of fashion products increased significantly, people shop for desire not for need that leads to a huge wastage of products that is undesolveable that cause a major problem for cities to handle the unnecessary items people throw. Furthermore, many companies produce inexpensive garments and introduce new collections frequently. Consequently, young people purchase clothes without spending large amount. people may feel pressure to buy n

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, explaining why global fashion has become influential through social media and international brands, and clearly stating a negative position. However, the essay is incomplete, ending abruptly in the middle of a sentence with the words 'people may feel pressure to buy n', and it falls short of the 250-word minimum at 239 words. Because the task is unfinished, the ideas in the second body paragraph are left under-developed and the conclusion is missing entirely. This prevents the response from reaching a higher band level, as key requirements of task fulfillment and a fully developed position cannot be met within an incomplete text. Therefore, Task Achievement is penalised both for under-length and for lack of full development due to truncation.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay demonstrates a basic organizational structure with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a stated position. Ideas are generally grouped logically, with the first body paragraph focusing on social media drivers and the second attempting to discuss environmental and financial impacts. However, cohesion is frequently faulty and mechanical. The student misuses 'therefor' and fails to manage referencing effectively, leading to run-on structures and fragmented thoughts, such as 'that is undesolveable that cause a major problem'. Furthermore, paragraphing is compromised because the final paragraph cuts off mid-sentence, preventing a cohesive progression to a conclusion. Cohesive devices are either repetitive or incorrectly applied, resulting in a somewhat disjointed reading experience that aligns with Band 5 descriptors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student attempts a range of vocabulary relevant to the topic, using terms such as 'significant influence', 'widespread use', and 'individuality'. However, there are several noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and collocation that detract from the writing. Examples include 'effects negatively' instead of 'affects negatively', 'espacially' (spelling error), 'dramtically' (spelling error), 'much more easier' (double comparative error), and 'undesolveable' (non-standard word). The writer also uses 'desire' where 'desires' or 'impulses' would be more appropriate. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the basic arguments regarding fashion trends and consumerism, the frequency of lexical errors limits the score to Band 5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The text displays a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, such as 'Platforms such as Instagram, Tiktok and facebook allow people to see clothing style from different countries within a second.' However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors that cause some difficulty for the reader. There are issues with subject-verb agreement and tense consistency, such as 'Many people argued' instead of 'argue', 'every era people tries', and 'people lost'. Punctuation and capitalization are also flawed, seen in lower-case platform names like 'Tiktok' and 'facebook'. Additionally, run-on sentences with comma splices appear, such as 'fast fashion operates primarily as a business therefor, manufacturing... increased significantly, people shop for desire...' Because complex structures are often faulty and errors are frequent, the writing sits comfortably within the Band 5 descriptor.
