IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Many aspects of the way people dress today are influenced by global fashion trends.
How has global fashion become such a strong influence on people's lives? Do you think this is a positive or negative development?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is widely argued that individual fashion sense is influenced by the global fashion trends. This essay will examine why is this happening and will discuss about its positive outcome because it is helping emerging textiles industries and indirectly helping in country development.
Regarding the first question, the primary reason why international fashion is influcing individuals lives is the advancement of technologies. That it to say, accessibility to internet, television and other ICT tools have made fashion trends to be known around the globe. Similarly, different broadcasters around the world telecasts the show related to fashion industries which is also playing a role in influencing the citizesn. For instance, many viewers on social media are influenced by the dress and makeup which their favourite celebrities are wearing. Consequently, the general populace also follow the same footsteps.
Turning to the second question, development of fabric industries is the most appropriate response. This is because, development of any industry directly helps the business operator and indirectly the country economy. Furthermore, when new trends comes up in fashion market, the viewer will try to follow up this by buying similar fashion items. To illustrate this, recent research done in India concluded that in recent year the textiles industries are earning a lot of profit. As a result, high tax amount will be received by the state which is beneficial for development.
In conclusion, modern tools plays the vital role for this situation, and this should be seen as a positive development as it is helping country and citizens.
