Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt by discussing the reasons behind the influence of global fashion (such as social media and marketing) and offering an opinion on whether this development is positive or negative. The writer presents a clear position that the trend is both detrimental and optimistic, touching upon boosted self-esteem as a positive aspect and inferiority complexes or financial strain as negative aspects. However, the ideas are somewhat limited and under-developed, particularly in the reasoning and examples provided. For instance, the example about teenagers within a friend circle being stubborn is rather vague and lacks full elaboration. Therefore, the response aligns best with Band 6, as it addresses all parts of the task with relevant ideas, though some are under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt at paragraphing, separating the introduction, causes, balanced evaluation, and conclusion. Progression is visible, moving from causes to the dual nature of the development. However, cohesion is at times faulty and mechanical. The writer uses transitional phrases like 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'Additionally', but referencing and linking within paragraphs occasionally feel disjointed. For example, sentences such as 'Additionally, at the top of that the social circle...' feature awkward cohesion. Paragraphing is adequate, but overall cohesive devices are over-used or inaccurate in places, leading to a Band 6 score.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'detrimental', 'inferiority complex', and 'unaffordability'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, such as 'largley' instead of largely, 'perceptive' instead of perception, 'cruical' instead of crucial, 'believe' instead of belief, 'vedio' instead of video, 'cirlce' instead of circle, 'sturbbon' instead of stubborn, 'beyound' instead of beyond, and 'constuctive' instead of constructive. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they reflect a lack of precision, placing the lexical resource firmly in the Band 5 to 6 range. Because the vocabulary attempts are functional and sufficient to convey the main points, a Band 6 is awarded.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety in structure. However, the text contains frequent grammatical errors, incorrect prepositions, and punctuation slips. Examples include 'In contemporary world' (missing article), 'Global fashion trends has changed' (subject-verb agreement error), 'people with getting offended' (awkward phrasing), and 'can effect their mental health' (wrong word form, 'affect' should be used). Run-on sentences and comma splices also occur, such as in the third paragraph. Despite these errors, the meaning is generally decipherable, supporting a Band 5.5 or 6.0. Given that simple structures are handled reasonably well and complex attempts are present, a score of 5.5 is appropriate.
