Student answer (Band 6.5)
In various ways that the masses dress these days is heavily influenced by worldwide fashion trends. Global fashion became quite predominant and influential through celebrity endorcements that inspires the general public to follow them and marketing campaigns as well. I believe it is a negative development as a lot of people waste their expenditure in such activities.
Throughout the world the fashion is getting more popular among the public because of the people they get inspired from, which are mainly celebrities including athletes, movie stars etc. When people see their favourite celebrities or idols wearing certain clothes they tend to mimic them by buying the same clothes which they wear and try to look the same. Additionally, marketing campaigns play a crucial role in promoting such behaviour, they would spend millions of dollars to promote their brands by using celebrities which can lead to a significant influence on people's lives. For instance, many brands such as louvis vuitton set up annual fashion show where they introduce new merchandise and that event becomes a threshold of a fashion statement by using celebrities.
However, I assert that it leads to a negative development in the society as people spend a lot of their hard earned money on these fashion trends. They do not add value to their lives as much and they spend thousands of dollars in buying something they saw on the big events or the celebrities they adore. Also such wastage of money on buying these expensive trendy fashion products adds unnecessary stress to their savings which they can use for something more beneficial.
To sum up, it is considered that in this contemporary era many people dress based on the global fashion trends they see, which is mainly due to marketing campaigns that promotes such trends and also the celebrities that act as a main driver behind such trend. As far as I am concerned such trends are not a beneficial for the public as they spend a lot of money on such activities which adds no value to their lives.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both why global fashion has become a strong influence through celebrity endorsements and marketing campaigns, and giving a clear opinion that this is a negative development due to financial waste. The position is maintained throughout the essay. The ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as the mention of marketing campaigns and specific brands like "louvis vuitton". However, there is a minor tendency to over-generalise in parts, and the development could be slightly more sophisticated to reach higher band levels. Overall, the task is well-handled and meets the criteria for Band 7.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay presents a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, moving smoothly from an introduction to causes, then to the negative impact, and finally a summary in the conclusion. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well, such as "Additionally", "For instance", and "However". However, there are some minor mechanical or repetitive elements in referencing and transitions, which prevents it from achieving a higher band. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately overall, maintaining a clear overarching structure that guides the reader easily through the arguments.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student uses a sufficient range of vocabulary to allow some flexibility and precision, employing terms such as "contemporary era", "endorcements" (spelling error), and "merchandise". There is an attempt to use less common items with some awareness of style and collocation, although some spelling and word-choice errors occur, such as "endorcements" and "louvis vuitton". Furthermore, phrasing like "waste their expenditure in such activities" is slightly unnatural. Nonetheless, the vocabulary is adequate for the task and communication is never impeded by lexical errors, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over structure. There are instances of complex sentences, such as "When people see their favourite celebrities or idols wearing certain clothes they tend to mimic them...". However, there are noticeable grammatical errors and awkward phrasings, including subject-verb agreement issues ("In various ways that the masses dress these days is...") and comma splices. Errors in grammar and punctuation appear with some frequency, but they rarely impede overall communication. This performance fits comfortably within the Band 6 criteria.
