Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The student attempts to address both parts of the prompt, identifying causes of global fashion influence such as mass media and fast fashion, and stating a negative position regarding cultural identity and increased spending. However, the response is severely truncated, ending abruptly mid-sentence at only 151 words, which is well below the 250-word minimum requirement. Due to this under-length condition, the ideas remain highly undeveloped and the second body paragraph is incomplete. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed, which heavily limits the Task Achievement score to a Band 4.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The text shows an attempt at basic organisation with an introductory paragraph, a body paragraph, and a broken second paragraph. Cohesive devices are used minimally, such as 'Therefore', 'While', and 'In addition', but referencing is sometimes unclear, as seen in 'influenced to these modern trends'. Paragraphing is disrupted because the response cuts off mid-thought, failing to form a complete conclusion or a fully realised argument. While the initial logical flow is somewhat apparent, the overall arrangement is compromised by the abrupt ending and lack of complete progression, warranting a Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is generally basic and repetitive, featuring phrases like 'modern technology', 'global fashion trends', and 'fast fashion supply chains'. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary such as 'proponents', 'advancement', and 'replica', but these are accompanied by lexical inaccuracies and awkward collocations, such as 'influenced to these modern trends' instead of 'influenced by', and 'considerably cheap price range' instead of 'considerably lower price range'. Spelling errors like 'ti' instead of 'to' also appear. The lexical range is limited but minimally adequate for basic communication, fitting a Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as concessive clauses ('While proponents find it a positive advancement, i find it a negative one'). However, grammatical control is weak, with frequent errors including punctuation omissions (missing commas after introductory elements), capitalization errors ('i'), preposition errors ('influenced to'), and missing plural or article markers ('this trendy dresses', 'replica ti these dresses'). The sentence structures often become faulty or incomplete, as demonstrated by the abrupt cut-off at the end of the text. Because errors occur frequently and can cause some difficulty for the reader, a Band 5.0 is appropriate.
