Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is argued that fashion styles that are trending on a global level is influencing many people sense of dressing. I believe this trend has negative development because young generations are forgetting about their culture and roots by following weird trends. Also, this trend is putting a lot of pressure financially by making youth run in a continous race of follwing new trends.

One of the reasons global fashion is making wrong impact on people dressing is that people are not following the heritage of their inheritors in their country. Similarly, they are forced to follow the specific global fashion by society no matter of how they are going to look in that particular trend. For example, Sindhi people are represented by their particular ajrak style of dressing, just by the way of dressing people knows the belonging of a person region but with the dawn of this new trends people are harldly following this trend of their ancestors.

Other reasons of new fashion trends on people is that youtth is on continuous race of updating their wardrobe and not utilising their already existed clothes. Consequently, these new global trends are making people to waste their money on new trends every other month and making people not content in what they already have. For example, people are running after useless trend of wearing K-Pop singers dressing making them update their wardrobe with every new upcoming fashion update, no matter what therir financial state is, thus not valuing what they are being provided by hardwork income of their parents.

In conclusion, global fashion trends are influencing people way of dressing in a negative way because this trend is making people forget about their culture and putting a imense financial pressure on everyone of keeping up to date with global fashion trends.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: how global fashion has become influential and whether this is a positive or negative development. The writer takes a clear stance, arguing that it is a negative development due to cultural erosion and financial pressure. Ideas are extended with examples, such as the mention of Sindhi ajrak and K-Pop clothing trends. However, the explanation tends to over-generalize and some arguments are repetitive, particularly regarding the continuous race to update wardrobes. This places the performance solidly at Band 6, as all parts are addressed with relevant, albeit somewhat under-developed and repetitive, ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different arguments. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. For instance, transitional phrases like 'One of the reasons...' and 'Other reasons of new fashion...' are slightly repetitive and unnatural. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as 'this trend' being used broadly to refer to multiple distinct phenomena. These features align with Band 6 descriptors, where cohesion can be somewhat mechanical and referencing inconsistent.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The writer attempts a range of vocabulary suitable for the topic, using terms such as 'global fashion trends', 'heritage', 'financial pressure', and 'wardrobe'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, such as 'continous' instead of 'continuous', 'follwing' instead of 'following', 'harldly' instead of 'hardly', and 'imense' instead of 'immense'. There are also awkward collocations like 'hardwork income'. These errors do not impede communication, but they prevent the score from rising above Band 5.5 or 6.0. Given the adequate range and persistent errors, a score of 5.5 is appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting relative clauses and conditional structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and preposition use, such as 'fashion styles that are trending on a global level is influencing' and 'no matter of how they are going to look'. There are also punctuation and article omissions. While these errors do not completely obscure meaning, they occur regularly and impact the overall accuracy of the writing. This performance corresponds to a Band 5.0, characterized by frequent errors in complex structures.
