Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, fashion trends had a great influence on the personal development as well as on the society. The variation in trends made the whole environment very competitive, so the people's dressing are affected by the global fashion trends. From my prespective, It is a positive development that plays an important role to boost the confidence of an individual. This essay discusses the views before drawing a conclusion.

To begin with, there are several resons about this development. Firstly, the new trends help people to stay updated with the latest fashion. Now, there are many international brands are available in the market: people are trying to buy from them and grooms their personality. For instance, social media also play a crucial role to adopt the modern looks: The number of people either men or women going for a job interviews are well-dressed, so they follow the latest trends for an attractive look as well as to boost their confidence. To elaborate this on, although the fashin trends must be followed within restrictions of our religion boundaries, as a muslim we should adopt the specific rules regarding fashion trends like "shalwar qameez along with dupatta" is our national dress for women: Instead of wearing jeans, skirts we should wear simple and elegant dresses that enchance our beauty.

In terms of negative development, the new fashion trends are just wastage of money. The keen of following the latest trends diverted people from the main objectives of their lives as a result they are quite stressed and out of budget.

In conclusion, although fashion trends are a positive development in our society, when it is practical and affordable. I strongly believed that positive development of fashion trends outweight the negative developments. In this regard, a balance approach is essential to maintain the healthy environment that will prove beneficial in the future.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The student addresses all parts of the task by discussing both why global fashion has a strong influence and giving an opinion on whether this is a positive or negative development. A clear position is maintained throughout the essay. The ideas are generally relevant, such as staying updated and boosting confidence, but some points are somewhat under-developed or tangled with personal tangents, such as the detailed mention of religious boundaries and 'shalwar qameez'. While the arguments are presented, they could be extended with more universally applicable examples rather than specific cultural ones. Nonetheless, the task is adequately addressed, earning a solid band score for covering both prompts.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with logical paragraphing. Each paragraph has a clear thematic focus, moving from an introduction to causes, then counterarguments, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'Firstly', 'For instance', and 'In conclusion'. However, referencing and transitions are sometimes faulty or mechanical, as seen in awkward phrasing like 'To elaborate this on' and abrupt shifts between ideas, particularly in the second paragraph where religious constraints are introduced rather suddenly. Paragraphing is present and appropriate, but logical progression within paragraphs occasionally stumbles.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'competitive', 'international brands', 'crucial role', and 'sustainable/affordable'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'prespective' instead of perspective, 'resons' instead of reasons, 'grooms' instead of groom, 'fashin' instead of fashion, 'enchance' instead of enhance, and 'keen' used as a noun. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they prevent the student from reaching a higher band. Collocations are occasionally awkward, such as 'within restrictions of our religion boundaries'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over structure. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses and agreement, such as 'fashion trends had a great influence' (instead of have), 'people's dressing are affected' (instead of dress or dressings), and 'many international brands are available... people are trying'. Punctuation and article usage also need attention, for example, 'going for a job interviews' and 'a balance approach'. While complex structures are attempted, they are often faulty, placing this response firmly in the mid-range for grammatical accuracy.
