Student answer (Band 6.0)
Global fashion trends are influencing people all around the world. This has become possible due to more and more people becoming active on social media. Consequently, this has both positive and negative devlopments but in my the positive side is much stronger than negative side.
Global fashion has brought stronger influence on people's lives due to number of reasons. The most important one is that social media has become much more accessible to people regardless of age, background and culture. For example, tiktok has become really popular. There are no boundaries now, any trend that starts in United States of America can become famous on tiktok and reach large masses all over the global including countries like Pkistan and India. If a person does not keep up with these global fashion trends then they will feel left out and also fear of missing out. Therefore to avoid feeling distant away, people keep up with these trends.
As a result of increasing influence, it has both positive and negative sides. Positive factors are that a person stays informed and is more aware of what is happening around the world. Some trends are genuinly good for example loose pants have become famous after 2023. I myself followed this trend and now half of my wardrobe has loose trousers. This had a really positive impact on me because since it looked good on me, I started feeling more confident. I am sure many people would have felt the same and for this reason I think positive devlopments are more. On the other side negative effects are some global trends are not even applicable to people living in particular areas. For example any trend from any country for women can not be followed in Afghanistan since women are supposed to cover themselves there.
In conclusion, with the rise of social media activity, it has become really easy for fashion trends to reach one part of globe from another. It has positive effects as they can improve a person's life and at the end of the day, a person has free will. If a person does not like any trend, they can simply skip it without letting it affect them.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The student addresses all parts of the task by explaining how global fashion has become influential through social media and providing a personal opinion on whether this development is positive or negative. A clear position is maintained throughout the response, concluding that the positive aspects outweigh the negatives. Ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as the popularity of TikTok and the trend of loose trousers adopted after 2023. While some arguments, such as the mention of Afghanistan, are slightly generalised, the main ideas are well-developed and fulfil the requirements for a Band 7 performance.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay presents a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. It is divided into four well-structured paragraphs that introduce the topic, discuss the causes, evaluate the positive and negative sides, and provide a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used adequately, such as 'Consequently', 'The most important one', and 'As a result of increasing influence'. However, referencing and transitions are sometimes a bit mechanical or slightly repetitive, placing this response firmly at Band 6.5, which rounds to a Band 6 based on standard whole-band increments, though looking at descriptor fit, Band 6 accurately reflects the occasional mechanical phrasing.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'accessible', 'consequently', 'regardless', and 'free will'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, including 'devlopments' (developments), 'genuinly' (genuinely), and awkward phrasing like 'brought stronger influence'. Despite these occasional inaccuracies, communication is never impeded, and the vocabulary is sufficient to allow some flexibility and precision, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional structures ('If a person does not keep up...') and relative clauses. There are several grammatical errors and typos throughout the text, including missing prepositions ('in my the positive side'), spelling mistakes, and awkward sentence structures ('Therefore to avoid feeling distant away'). However, these errors do not impede communication, and the writer demonstrates a reasonable control of basic sentence patterns alongside some attempts at more complex structures, fitting the Band 6 criteria.
