Student answer (Band 6.0)
The fashion industry has been garnering a lot of attention recently. This has directly affected the way people dress today. I believe that it has too many drawbacks that are hard to be dismissed.
Social networking sites allow clebrities and influencers to display their outfit to millions of people at one click. Thus, the trend originated in one place can become significantly popular on the completely other side of globe as well. Youngsters have started replicating the fashion trends going online. For example, the trend of qipao which originally originated in China has started gaining poplarity in the West as well.
Fashion is a subjective choice and varies from person to person, generalizing it has led to people imitating famous trends rather than following what suits them the best. In my view this development has more negative than positive sides. We currently live in the era of social media, where each and every thing you post goes under public scrutiny. These puts an unrealistic pressure on users to conform to a particular style of appearance. The constant exposure to such platforms has led people to follow the global fashion trends leaving behind their own style. This has also led to impulsive shopping which is not sustainable for our environment as well.
Thus, global fashion has gained popularity due to various social platforms which enables them to influence people.

| Criterion | Band |
|---|---|

| Lexical Resource | 6.0 |
| Grammatical Range and Accuracy | 6.0 |
| Overall | 6.0 |
Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing how global fashion has become influential through social media and expressing a clear negative viewpoint. However, there is a significant length issue as the text contains only 227 words, falling short of the mandatory 250-word minimum. This results in a penalty under task achievement, as the ideas cannot be fully developed. While the mention of platforms and examples like the qipao add some relevance, the arguments remain somewhat brief and under-developed due to the constrained word count. To improve, you must ensure that you meet the minimum word requirement and expand further on your supporting ideas with deeper analysis and more comprehensive examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a generally logical arrangement with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Thus', 'For example', and 'In my view', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. Paragraphing is attempted, but the organization is occasionally disjointed, with some ideas separated rather than unified logically. Referencing is mostly clear, though paragraph boundaries and transitions could be smoother to create a more cohesive and progressive flow throughout the essay. Ensuring a clear thematic progression within each paragraph will greatly enhance your coherence and cohesion score.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common terms such as 'garnering', 'scrutiny', and 'impulsive shopping'. However, there are notable spelling and lexical inaccuracies, such as 'clebrities' instead of celebrities, 'poplarity' instead of popularity, and the awkward phrasing 'completely other side of globe'. Word choice is generally understandable, but occasional slips in collocation and vocabulary control prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. To improve lexical resource, focus on accurate spelling, refining word forms, and incorporating more sophisticated phrasing naturally without risking errors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including relative clauses and conditional statements. There are, however, several noticeable grammatical errors. For instance, the sentence 'These puts an unrealistic pressure' contains a subject-verb agreement error, and 'hard to be dismissed' is awkwardly phrased. Punctuation is mostly functional, but sentence boundary issues and minor grammatical slips appear occasionally. The majority of simple sentences are accurate, but attempts at more complex structures frequently introduce minor errors. Improving grammatical accuracy requires careful proofreading to catch agreement errors and refine complex structures.
