Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response attempts to address both parts of the prompt, discussing why global fashion has become influential and giving an opinion on whether this is positive or negative. However, the severe length deficiency (143 words compared to the 250-word minimum) prevents proper development of ideas. The points made are overly brief and lack supporting examples or elaboration. For instance, the claim that global fashion reduces cultural differences is stated without explanation. Because the response is significantly under-length and the ideas are rudimentary and under-developed, it falls into the Band 4 descriptor for Task Achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The text is organized into brief paragraphs, and basic cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'Conversely' are employed to structure the response. However, overall progression is limited due to the extreme brevity of the essay. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'everyones wear same attire', and paragraphing is underdeveloped since most paragraphs consist of only one or two sentences. While the writing shows a basic logical flow between the introduction, body points, and conclusion, the mechanical use of transitions and lack of detailed elaboration align the response with Band 5.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, seen in phrases like 'plays an essential role in fashion', 'dress well', and 'make everyones life much easier'. There are noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'unnecessary spend of money' instead of 'unnecessary spending of money' or 'unnecessary expenditure', and spelling/grammatical errors within words like 'sence' instead of 'sense' and 'inter-personel'. The lexical range is limited and minimally adequate for conveying simple meaning, corresponding to a Band 5 descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, such as 'If people wear same clothes then it results in sence of belonging.' However, grammatical accuracy is very weak throughout the text. There are frequent basic errors, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'Many people gets influenced' and 'people not need to find', missing articles ('wear same clothes'), and punctuation errors. While the meaning remains generally understandable, the high frequency of basic structural errors means the performance reflects a Band 4 level.
