Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing the causes of global fashion influence and providing an opinion on whether this development is positive or negative. However, the ideas are somewhat limited and under-developed. For instance, the first body paragraph touches upon globalization and brand availability through an example of Nike, but the explanation lacks depth. Similarly, the negative aspect is introduced with traditional clothing examples from Nepal such as 'Dhakatopi, Lungi, Choli and Sari', yet the exploration remains brief and repetitive rather than fully extended. The position of the writer is evident throughout, but the overall treatment leans towards generalizations without thorough elaboration. To reach a higher standard, the writer needs to present more fully developed arguments and support them with more detailed explanations and richer examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the response into an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by mechanical and repetitive use of cohesive devices, such as starting consecutive sentences and paragraphs with transition words like 'Initially', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, as seen in the opening paragraph where pronouns like 'they' lack a precise antecedent ('because they focus on social medias they often analysis our search history'). To improve, the writer should employ a wider and more natural variety of organizational markers and ensure smoother logical transitions between sentences.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms like 'globalization', 'contemporary world', and 'enterprises'. However, there are noticeable limitations and inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and word formation that occasionally impact precision. Examples of lexical errors include 'social medias' instead of 'social media', 'economicaly' instead of 'economically', 'traditionals and cultural dresses' instead of 'traditional and cultural attire', and 'may choises' instead of 'many choices'. There are also minor spelling slips. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the basic message, attempting less common lexical items with greater precision and correct morphological forms is necessary for achieving a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing exhibits a limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences alongside some attempts at complex forms. However, these complex sentence attempts are frequently faulty and accompanied by frequent errors in grammar, punctuation, and agreement. For example, clauses are often strung together incorrectly without proper subordination or punctuation, as seen in 'Although the positive impact of global trends we can earn more money which is very benefical because they can help economicaly, it creates many problems...'. There are also persistent issues with subject-verb agreement and missing articles, such as 'Global fashion become such a strong influence' and 'in the context of nepal'. These frequent errors require the reader to occasionally exert effort to decode the meaning.
