Student answer (Band 6.5)

Nowdays, the way people dress is increasingly influenced by fashion trends from around the world. This influence has become particularly strong because os social media, celebrities and growth of online shopping. In my view, global fashion is generally a positive development, although it can have some negative effects.

There are several reasons why global fashion trends have become so influential. The main reason is the rapid growth of socialo media. Platforms such as Instagram, Youtube and tiktok allow people to see new clothing style and trends from different countries almost instantly. Celebrities and influencers also play an important role because many people admire them and want to copy their appearance. Another important factor is online shopping. People can now purchase clothes from international brands without travelling to another country. Foe example, a fashion trend that become popular in Europe or the United states can quickly become common among young people in india.

I believe this trend has become positive effects. People have more choices when buying clothes and can learn about different culture through fashion. Global fashion can also encourage people to be craetive and try new styles. However, there are some negative effects as well. People may spend too much money on clothes simply because they are fashionable. In addition, traditional clothing may become less popular among younger generations. For example, some young people may prefer international Western-style clothes instead of wearing traditional clothes during cultural events.

In conclusion, global fashion has become influential mainly because of social media, celebrities and online shopping. Although it can provide more choices and encourage creativity, people should also value their traditional clothing and avoid following every new trend.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by explaining why global fashion has become influential and offering a clear opinion on whether this development is positive or negative. A clear position is maintained throughout the essay. Ideas are generally extended and supported, such as when the writer explains the role of social media platforms and online shopping, and gives specific examples like trends spreading from Europe or the United States to India. However, there is a slight tendency to overgeneralize and some ideas are marginally more developed than others, preventing a higher score. For instance, the paragraph discussing the positive and negative effects touches upon multiple distinct points—such as consumerism, cultural learning, and traditional clothing—without fully expanding upon any single concept in depth. Despite this minor unevenness in development, all core prompt requirements are thoroughly covered.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay presents a clear logical organization and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, beginning with an introduction that outlines the causes and the writer's stance, followed by body paragraphs dedicated to the causes of global fashion and its positive and negative impacts, and concluding with a concise summary. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well to guide the reader through the arguments, as seen in transition markers such as 'In my view', 'Another important factor', and 'However'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas logically. While referencing and paragraph flow are generally clear, cohesion occasionally feels slightly mechanical rather than entirely seamless, which is characteristic of this band level. Nevertheless, the overarching structure successfully supports the clarity of the essay.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully discussing fashion, media, and cultural impacts using relevant terms such as 'international brands', 'traditional clothing', 'fashionable', and 'creativity'. There are clear attempts to use less common vocabulary items, though this is accompanied by some inaccuracy in word choice, form, and spelling. Examples of lexical slips include typographical errors like 'Nowdays' and 'socialo', as well as minor word form and collocation issues such as saying 'this trend has become positive effects' instead of 'this trend has positive effects' or 'has positive consequences', and 'craetive'. These errors do not impede communication, and the vocabulary remains minimally sufficient to convey the intended meaning effectively, though greater precision and fewer mechanical slips would be needed for a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

The response displays a workable mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and subordinate structures like 'Although it can provide more choices and encourage creativity...' and 'People who may spend too much money...'. There is good control over basic sentence patterns, and meaning is rarely obscured. However, several grammatical errors persist, including article omissions and misuse, incorrect prepositions, and verb form inconsistencies—for example, writing 'a fashion trend that become popular' instead of 'became' or 'becomes', and writing 'different culture' instead of the plural 'cultures'. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the frequency of these minor grammatical and morphological errors indicates that while simple sentences are well controlled, complex structures still introduce recurrent mistakes. The presence of these frequent error-prone constructions firmly places the grammar at this level, showing solid foundations with room for finer accuracy.
