Many aspects of the way people dress today are influenced by global fashion trends.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Global fashion trends have influenced the dressing of people in many ways. I strongly agree with this idea, and I think it is an extremely negative development.
People, nowadays, are addicted to dramas, series, and movies. These dramas depict cultures and controversial fashion ideas in their series. Consequently, a person watching 14 episodes, making 17 hours in total, ultimately gets attached to these scenes. For instance, a person watching an anime movie for a straight 17 hours is lost in the fictional world. Therefore, they behave like their favorite character and dress like them, doing cosplay. This means that the people are just following what they see. Furthermore, the fan culture has also significantly contributed to it. The marketing companies pay extreme amounts to famous people, asking them to wear their dresses. These dresses can include a weird type of design or cutting which a normal person usually would not wear. However, seeing their favorite actor or influencer promoting a product, people rush to buy that.
In a global world, despite promoting the slogan "you can wear whatever you want," the companies play a mental game with the innocent buyers. They broadcast the movies, shows, or entertainment to make a particular person famous. Then, using them, they influence others. The word suitable here is "manipulation" rather than "influencing." In psychology, research proves that using a liked person for a weird goal is a dark tactic used by governments as well as multinational companies to achieve their goals.
In conclusion, it is a negative development as it snatches the right of choosing from people and gives them a choice which always benefits the companies, taking away the right of freedom.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by explaining how global fashion influences people through media and marketing, and clearly stating your position that it is a negative development. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For instance, your discussion on fan culture and marketing strategies in the second paragraph is quite detailed, whereas your point regarding psychological manipulation in the third paragraph is somewhat repetitive and could have been extended with clearer real-world examples rather than general assertions. To reach a higher level, ensure that every main idea receives equal analytical depth and is fully supported throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear progression from causes to the ultimate conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate your introduction, body points, and conclusion. However, cohesion sometimes feels mechanical or slightly repetitive, such as the frequent reliance on transitional phrases like 'Furthermore' and 'Therefore'. Additionally, referencing is occasionally imprecise, as seen in the phrase 'doing cosplay' where the connection to the preceding sentence could be smoother. To improve, work on varying your cohesive devices and ensuring that links between sentences flow more naturally without relying on formulaic connectors.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'controversial', 'manipulation', and 'multinational companies'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'dressing of people' instead of 'how people dress', and 'making 17 hours in total' which sounds unnatural. While these minor lexical lapses and occasional awkward phrases do not impede communication, achieving a higher band would require greater precision in word choice, more natural collocations, and a wider variety of sophisticated phrasing used with full control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
Your writing displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, with several well-constructed complex sentences such as 'The marketing companies pay extreme amounts to famous people, asking them to wear their dresses.' There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including article misuse ('in a global world' instead of 'in today's globalised world') and preposition issues. Fortunately, these errors are relatively minor and rarely impede communication. To move up to the next level, you need to produce a higher frequency of error-free sentences using a wider variety of advanced grammatical structures with consistent accuracy.
