Student answer (Band 6.0)
Global fashion has become increasingly widespread in the recent years. This essay will outline the main ways it has influenced daily life and argue that this development is predominantly negative.
It is evident that global fashion has affected our lives in many ways. The first and most noticeable change is chasing after the products and clothes that celebrities and global pop icons has ever worn. A clear illustration of this is the rhode lip gloss launched by haily bieber's company which gave a rise to a new aesthetic called "clean girl".The second way is aesthetic driven shopping. This has been done by making everyone feel the need to belong in one aesthetic or in one style. As long as one aesthetic is trending anything with that aesthetic's name will be a bestseller. This gave rise to fast fashion brands. Example of this is temu and shein being the holy grail for "y2k" accessories and dresses or "goth" labelled products.
A mass hysterical following of celebrity trends or social media aesthetic has altered every day fashion negatively. The blind copying of what famous peope are using has led to a number of knockoffs of famous products even in third world countries. Blindly following such trends have led to mass consumption of products which become useless once the trend becomes old. This increases the plastic waste as well. The same affect has also given rise to fast fashion brands and excessive consumerism.
In conclusion, nowadays people's lives are strongly affected by global fashion aesthetics and celebrity endorsed products which lead to excessive capitalization of such products. This phenomenon is undeiably a negative development of global fashion's affect on every day life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both how global fashion influences lives through celebrity culture and fast fashion, and giving a clear opinion that this is a negative development. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. While the first body paragraph attempts to introduce relevant examples such as specific lip gloss trends and fast fashion platforms like Shein, the elaboration tends to list examples rather than fully explore their broader societal impacts. To reach a higher level, the ideas need to be more thoroughly extended and supported throughout the body paragraphs, presenting a more fully rounded discussion of the phenomenon.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a concluding summary. The progression of ideas is generally logical, moving from the causes of fashion influence to its negative consequences. However, cohesion at times feels a bit mechanical or repetitive, particularly in how sentences are linked within paragraphs. Referencing is occasionally slightly unclear, and cohesive devices are used in a basic manner rather than with complete flexibility. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to structure the response, but smoother transitions between ideas would enhance the overall flow and organizational control.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating the writer's ideas about global fashion trends and consumerism. The student attempts less common vocabulary, such as 'aesthetic-driven shopping', 'mass hysterical following', and 'excessive capitalization', but there are noticeable errors in word choice, form, and collocation, such as 'gave a rise' instead of 'gave rise' and 'affect' used as a noun instead of 'effect'. There are also minor capitalization and punctuation slips in names and terms. These lexical errors do not seriously impede communication, but they reflect a limited precision that prevents the vocabulary score from rising further.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, employing relative clauses and participial phrases to connect ideas. There are some grammatical errors and punctuation issues present throughout the text, such as subject-verb agreement errors like 'clothes that celebrities and global pop icons has ever worn' instead of 'have ever worn', and missing articles. However, these errors are relatively infrequent and rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the argument without difficulty. To achieve a higher level, the writer needs to demonstrate greater control over complex sentence structures and eliminate recurring basic grammatical slips.
