Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, most of the features of dressing style in people are influenced by global fashion trends. Many international icons and social media are the main reasons for this increasing trend.
On the one hand, almost everyone has access to movies and social media. Brands partner with celebrities and influencers in order to display their fashionable wears in the movies or posts over social media. People who might admire them or follow them on social platforms may develop interest and adapt to their fashion sense. This helps them with grooming their personality. Being presentable in their daily lives boosts their confidence and may play a part in their emotional stability. Furthermore, this can improve their productivity at work and also their behaviour towards people they may come across.
On the other hand, following a trend can be difficult for some people. For some it can be expensive and for other it might not be the right fit. This can induce stress also making them feel inferior to others at times. For instance, people all over the world love Chiristiano Ronaldo but not everyone of them can wear the same clothing or watches as his's. Somone might become obsessed over some influencer and endup buying stuff they cannot afford. This can mean loan for a lifetime.
In conclusion, social media and celebrities in movies promote a lot of brands driving a sense of fashion in viewers that can be useful in their daily lives. However it can have drawbacks for others as well. Nevertheless, in my opinion this is a positive development.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing the causes of global fashion influence and providing an opinion on whether it is a positive or negative development. Your position is clear throughout the essay, particularly concluding that it is a positive development. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For instance, the positive impacts of fashion on grooming, confidence, and productivity are well explained with clear logical progression. On the other hand, the negative aspects, such as financial stress and the example of Cristiano Ronaldo, are slightly under-developed and rely on generalised assertions like 'loan for a lifetime' rather than deeper elaboration. To reach a higher level, every main idea needs equally thorough extension and support.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear sense of progression from introduction to body paragraphs and a concluding summary. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two main aspects of the prompt: the positive impacts and the negative drawbacks. Cohesive devices are used to guide the reader, with clear transitional phrases such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion'. However, cohesion is sometimes slightly mechanical or basic, and referencing can occasionally feel repetitive. To move towards a higher band, you could integrate cohesive devices more flexibly and ensure that referencing within sentences is smoother.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
Your vocabulary provides an adequate range for the task, successfully communicating your ideas about global fashion trends. You attempt less common vocabulary items and phrases, such as 'grooming your personality', 'emotional stability', and 'obsessed over some influencer'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that reflect this level, such as 'wears' instead of 'wear', 'Chiristiano Ronaldo', 'his's' instead of 'his', 'Somone', and 'endup' instead of 'end up'. While these errors do not seriously impede communication, they prevent the lexical score from rising higher. To improve, you should focus on precision in word formation, spelling accuracy, and natural collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional ideas effectively, such as in 'People who might admire them or follow them on social platforms may develop interest and adapt to their fashion sense.' There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as missing articles ('for other it might not be the right fit') and minor prepositional or structural slips, but these errors rarely impede communication and do not obscure your meaning. The majority of your complex structures are controlled well enough to convey your points clearly. To reach a higher standard, you need to produce a higher frequency of error-free sentences across a wider range of sophisticated structures.
