Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response partially addresses all parts of the task, meeting the core prompt requirements by discussing both the reasons for the global influence of fashion and whether this trend is positive or negative. However, the position is not always entirely clear, and the ideas presented are somewhat limited and under-developed. For instance, in the second body paragraph, the explanation of how social media influences people relies on a very repetitive and anecdotal example of watching a movie and buying a product online, rather than being extended with robust supporting arguments. Similarly, the evaluation of the development's merits and drawbacks in the third paragraph mixes positive and negative aspects somewhat confusingly without fully developing either side. To move to a higher band, the writer needs to present a clearer, more consistent position and extend each main idea with well-reasoned explanations and fully articulated examples rather than relying on brief, circular assertions.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a recognisable introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, demonstrating some organisation of ideas. Paragraphing is used to separate distinct points, such as separating the causes in the second paragraph from the evaluation in the third. However, progression is sometimes hindered because the logical links between sentences are occasionally faulty or mechanical. For example, transitional phrases like 'Therefore, it is evident that...' and 'With regard to the second question...' are used, but referencing and logical flow within the paragraphs can be confusing, such as the sudden pivot in the third paragraph where positive and negative aspects are compressed together ('fashion allows people to express themselves... but it promotes excessive consumerism'). To achieve a higher band, the writer must ensure clearer progression between sentences and make cohesive devices more natural and precise rather than repetitive.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The lexical resource displayed is limited, providing a minimally adequate range of vocabulary to address the topic. The student attempts to use some less common vocabulary, such as 'consumerism', 'materialism', and 'excessive', but these are accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and collocation that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Examples of inaccurate lexical choices include 'ediceted' instead of addicted, 'fashionble' instead of fashionable, and awkward phrasings like 'unnecessarly money spending'. Furthermore, there is significant repetition of basic phrases such as 'global fashion', 'people's lives', and 'social media'. To improve to a higher band, the writer needs to expand their range of vocabulary, ensure accurate word forms and spellings, and incorporate more precise collocations related to fashion and societal trends.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a limited range of grammatical structures. While the student attempts some complex sentence forms, these are frequently faulty, leading to frequent errors that can cause difficulty for the reader and obscure the intended meaning. Examples of grammatical errors include awkward relative clauses and missing elements, as seen in 'the way of dressing significant impact by international fashion trends has become...' and 'every human go through the online for anything'. Additionally, there are persistent issues with verb forms and tense consistency, such as 'fashion became strong influence' and 'a person who watching movie'. To progress to a higher band, the writer must improve control over basic sentence architecture, reduce the frequency of grammatical errors, and demonstrate accurate use of complex structures, including relative clauses and verb agreements.
