Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dress is considered as a way of expressing personality and style from the past. Currently, clothing is more likely to be influenced by the trends that are going on globally.
First of all, people tend to follow the trend and current fashion going on in the model and film industry. Mostly, people are extremely influenced by the western cultures and styles. When a trend begins in the social platforms, people tend to follow it immediately otherwise they will feel the fear of missing out. Nowadays, people have the tendency of owning branded clothes, though the clothes are not worth the price. When the big brands promote their items by renowned models and actors who are the role model of the mass people, people want to blindly own the clothes with famous brand names. However, it has some positive effects. For instance, people can embrace the culture of other countries as their own. They can style themselves according to the global fashion and they can easily get guidance to improve their dressing sense.
Nevertheless, in my perspective, the negative impacts outweigh the positive impacts. First of all, consequences of this global fashion trends lead people to buy more clothes. In order to be fashionable, people tend to wear a dress only once and then they dump the used clothes which causes environmental pollution. Most of the clothes are made from synthetic fibres which take a very long time to decompose. Eventually, the fabric waste stay for a longer period of time in the environment causing pollution. In addition, following the trends blindly leads to spend a huge amount of money in buying branded stuffs. Again, it is also not sustainable in terms of economic and environmental aspects.
Therefore, people should be more thoughtful about which trend to follow from economic and environmental aspects for a better world.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the reasons behind the influence of global fashion and whether this is a positive or negative development, successfully taking a clear position. The ideas presented are generally relevant, satisfying the requirements of the band. However, some parts are more fully developed than others, which prevents the essay from reaching a higher level. For example, the positive aspects are introduced and supported briefly, such as when mentioning that people can embrace the culture of other countries, but this point remains somewhat superficial and lacks extended exemplification. Similarly, the explanation of how global trends spread through social platforms and the media is outlined clearly, yet certain arguments—such as people buying clothes they cannot afford—are stated rather than fully unpacked. To move into higher bands, the writer needs to ensure all main points are extended with deeper explanations and concrete personal or societal examples rather than over-generalized statements.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from introducing the topic, to exploring causes and positive effects, followed by the negative impacts and a summarizing conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct themes, such as segregating the positive and negative viewpoints into distinct sections. However, the use of cohesive devices is at times mechanical or somewhat repetitive, with transitional phrases like 'First of all' and 'In addition' used frequently to structure the arguments. Furthermore, referencing is occasionally imprecise, meaning that pronouns and demonstratives do not always point back smoothly to the intended antecedent, causing minor disruptions in the flow. To achieve a higher band, the writer should employ a wider variety of cohesive devices more flexibly and ensure that paragraphs transition into one another with subtle, sophisticated links rather than formulaic connectors.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task and permits the student to convey their ideas about fashion trends, consumerism, and environmental impact. The writer attempts less common lexical items, such as 'fear of missing out', 'synthetic fibres', and 'sustainable', showing an awareness of stylistic range. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and phrasing throughout the text. For instance, phrases like 'going on in the model and film industry' and 'the mass people' sound unnatural and lack precision, while 'branded stuffs' contains an informal word choice. Additionally, minor slips occur, such as writing 'leads to spend' instead of 'leads to spending'. These errors do not impede communication, but they restrict the score. To improve this area, the writer needs to focus on collocation patterns and choose more precise, natural vocabulary suitable for academic discourse.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures to convey arguments. There are several error-free sentences, particularly when expressing straightforward opinions or general facts. Nevertheless, some grammatical and punctuation errors persist throughout the text. For example, issues appear in article usage ('in the model and film industry'), subject-verb agreement or prepositional patterns following gerunds ('leads to spend a huge amount of money'), and pluralization ('fabric waste stay' instead of stays). Despite these errors, they rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear. To reach a higher grammatical band, the writer must increase the proportion of error-free complex sentences and exercise tighter control over prepositions, articles, and subject-verb concordance.
