Student answer (Band 6.0)

In present time, the influence of fashion trends around the globe is a lot on the way people dress. The main cause behind this are different kinds of social media platforms where individuals watch their favourite celebrities and ended up wanting to dress like them. I believe overall it is a negative trend as it destroys personal choice and cultural norms.

To begin with, the primary reason behind this development is the usage of social media. Celebrities uplaod their pictures and videos in different clothes almost everyday. Numorous clothing and footwear brands colaborate with these famous personalities to promote their new product. Prople watch these photos on platforms like Instagram, Facebook etc and suddenly started getting influnced by that particular trend. Nowadays, prople don't want to feel leftout and they also start following that trend blindly. For instance, baggy jeans trend became world wide after certain Hollywood actors and Football icons started wearing it.

From my perspective,it is a negative development as it will effect personal choice and also will erase the trend of wearing cultural dresses. First of all, because of this the ability of choosing dresses according to one's own mood will be erased. Individuals will have to dress according to global trends their own choise will not matter. Secondly, the cultural norms will also affect from this as people will stop wearing tradtional dresses and will just focus on what their favourite celebrities are wearing. For example, according to a recent report it is found that majority of Pakistani youngsters don't wear shalwar kameez as they feel it is out of trend to wear it.

In conclusion, social media platforms and following celebrity culture are the chief reasons of this trend as general populace easily get influenced by what they are wearing and my opinion is that it will effect choosing dresses according to one's own will and also effect the trend of wearing cultural dresses.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of both task questions, exploring the causes behind the influence of global fashion through social media and providing a clear position that it is a negative development. The ideas presented are generally relevant and supported with examples, such as the mention of baggy jeans and the decline of traditional shalwar kameez in Pakistan. However, certain parts of the argument show signs of under-development. For instance, the explanation of how global fashion impacts cultural norms is introduced but lacks deeper elaboration on the broader societal implications. To move towards a higher level, the writer needs to fully develop all supporting ideas with more extended explanations and robust examples rather than relying on brief mentions, ensuring a more thorough exploration of the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear, logical progression of ideas from introduction to conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with distinct sections dedicated to the causes and the negative impacts respectively. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'First of all', and 'Secondly' help to guide the reader through the argument. Nevertheless, some cohesion feels a bit mechanical, and referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as the ambiguous pronoun use in sentences like 'this will effect personal choice and also will erase the trend'. To achieve a higher score, the writer should employ a more flexible and varied range of cohesive devices without over-relying on standard transition formulas, while ensuring seamless referencing between sentences.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items and phrases such as 'global fashion trends', 'collaborate with', and 'cultural norms'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice inaccuracies that occur throughout the text, including 'uplaod', 'Numorous', 'colaborate', 'Prople', 'leftout', 'tradtional', and 'effect' instead of 'affect'. These errors reflect a limited control over less common lexical items and occasional spelling slips. To reach a higher band, the writer must expand their working vocabulary, pay closer attention to exact word forms and collocations, and eliminate spelling mistakes to ensure smooth and precise communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to use relative clauses and conditional structures. There are some grammatical errors and punctuation lapses present, such as missing articles ('In present time'), incorrect verb tenses and forms ('ended up wanting', 'suddenly started getting', 'it is found that majority'), and punctuation errors like the missing space in 'perspective,it'. However, these errors rarely impede overall communication, and the meaning remains clear throughout. To progress to a higher level, the writer needs to increase the frequency of error-free complex sentences and demonstrate better control over articles, subject-verb agreement, and punctuation.
