Many aspects of the way people dress today are influenced by global fashion trends.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent years, many individuals are getting influenced by social media trends. A number of people, particularly youngsters take inspiration from international models' dressing. From my perspective, this is a negative development, and in this essay, I will give reasons in favor of my opinion.
One major drawback is the discomfort associated with trending global fashion. It is particularly significant because various brands introduce footwares that are considered modern, but they are not comfortable at all. However, the youth gets inspired by the models that promote such clothes and shoes. One crucial example is a pair of shoes being introduced by a popular brand which has only a heel rather than a complete shoe sole. Therefore, fashion trends are encouraging popularity over comfort.
Another unavoidable negative factor is that many brands have an excessively high cost for items that are not useful at all. It can be attributed to the fact that multinational brands are encouraging individuals to buy ridiculous clothes, bags and shoes in the name of fashion. Provided that a well-known brand is charging millions of dollars for a polythene bag as its latest edition, although the bag is quite similar to normal polythene shopping bags which can be bought in negligible price from any store. Hence, universal fashion industry is setting unnecessary standards for the individuals who follow them religiously.
On the other hand, some affluent members of the society believe that these new trends are cool, as they have helped them to improve their fashion sense. This means that some people who want to enhance their dressing sense, can get an inspiration from their favourite models, actors and influencers. For instance, if a person wants to pursue a career in modeling, the ongoing trends will help him to dress well to fit in the fashion industry.
Although many people follow international trends because they find them cool; however, I firmly believe that it has more negative influence as it promotes discomfort and wasting of money on some useless products.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing how global fashion influences people's lives and clearly stating a negative position. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others, which is typical of this band level. While the first body paragraph presents a relevant point about discomfort, the supporting example regarding shoes with only a heel lacks sufficient real-world context or depth. Similarly, the second body paragraph introduces the high cost of items like polythene bags, but the explanation tends to over-generalize and remains somewhat limited in its extension. The position is clear throughout, but the supporting arguments would benefit from more thorough elaboration and specific, robust examples to fully satisfy the higher band requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear progression of ideas from introduction to conclusion, demonstrating the full characteristics of the lower band. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, with each body paragraph focusing on a distinct point regarding discomfort and cost. Cohesive devices such as 'One major drawback', 'Another unavoidable negative factor', and 'On the other hand' are employed to guide the reader through the arguments. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or slightly repetitive in its transitional phrasing. Referencing is mostly clear, though occasional rigid links prevent the flow from being entirely natural and seamless, keeping the response firmly within this band.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'multinational brands', 'affluent members', and 'unnecessary standards'. There are, however, some inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and phrasing—for instance, writing 'footwares' instead of footwear, 'bought in negligible price' instead of at a negligible price, and 'wasting of money' instead of wasting money or waste of money. These vocabulary and word-choice errors do not impede communication, as the reader can easily follow the intended meaning, but the presence of these slips prevents the vocabulary from reaching a higher level of precision and natural control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response makes use of a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at complex structures such as conditional and concessive clauses (e.g., 'Provided that a well-known brand is charging...' and 'Although many people follow international trends...; however, I firmly believe...'). There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including awkward punctuation in the final sentence and minor article or preposition slips. Nevertheless, these errors are relatively infrequent and rarely impede communication. The writer maintains adequate control over basic sentence construction, but the limitations in grammatical variety and the persistence of minor structural inaccuracies place this aspect at the level described.
