Student answer (Band 6.5)
People follow fashion trends which are popular online to dress themselves. This is mainly possible due to access to internet where celebrities and influencers advertise the products. In my opinion, it has many negative impacts like increase in waste products and lack of individuality.
In the modern world, internet has connected people from all over the world which means people can get fashion inspirations from anyone. This is weaponized by the different clothing brands for marketing. When a famous person tries on a cloth, it reaches a wide range of audiences, which further gets forwarded to more people. In this way, a piece of cothing becomes trending in social media. Once this happens, people demand it and factories begin to mass produce them. As a result, shops stock them up and people can buy clothes that has gone 'viral' easily. However, there are many influencers and different brands. So, the trend of one cloth is replaced by another in a short time period and a vicious cycle is created. Even when a person may not be initially interested in a particular fashion, the fear of not fitting into society often forces them to follow such global trends. For example, during dashain in Nepal, Kurtha Suruwal becomes famous among young girls. Such psycological influences mainly results in the people following global fashion.
However, these practices have introduced fast fashion in all parts of the world. Most young people get influenced by the people online and buy cloths in huge quanitity. Also, people have begun to avoid repeating clothes in the name of fashion which results in more fabric production. These end up in dumping sites and the environmental problems are magnified. Furthermore, when people begin to copy others, they begin to lack creativity and the culture amalgamation becomes very common. For example, youths of Nepal wearing corset top with sari. The blouse which is a traditional part of sari wear is slowly replaced by western tops which can harm the culture in long run. This sabotages their personal choice to wear what they would actually like without influence of others.
In conclusion, globalization of fashion occurs due to of social media where big personas work in collaboration with clothe industries. This can cause land pollution through increased production of synthetic fibres and also challenges personal choices.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response addresses both parts of the question: it explains how online promotion and social pressure spread trends, and it clearly judges the development as negative. The account of a celebrity’s clothing becoming viral and then being mass-produced gives a relevant explanation, while the discussion of waste and cultural influence supports the evaluation. The Nepal examples make the response more specific. To strengthen the development further, explain the causal links and examples with greater precision: the Dashain example is introduced as evidence of psychological influence, but its connection to global trends is not fully clear. The claim that traditional sari blouses are being replaced also needs a little more explanation to show how this illustrates a broader effect.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph explaining the spread of trends, a paragraph evaluating their effects, and a conclusion. The progression from social-media exposure to demand and mass production is easy to follow, and linking phrases such as “As a result,” “Furthermore,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent overall arrangement and shows some flexibility in connecting ideas. However, cohesion is occasionally mechanical, with repeated “people” and “fashion,” and some references are not fully clear. For example, “these practices” could refer to several preceding points. Use more varied referencing and make the relationship between the Nepal examples and the main argument explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
There is adequate vocabulary for the topic, including “mass produce,” “vicious cycle,” “fast fashion,” “fabric production,” and “personal choice.” These terms help communicate the main ideas, and the reader can understand the argument despite some inaccurate choices and spelling slips. At times, however, wording is imprecise or unnatural: “a cloth” and “cloths” are used where “garment” or “clothes” would fit, while “big personas” is not a natural expression for prominent public figures. Errors such as “cothing,” “psycological,” and “quanitity” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise collocations and check spelling, especially in topic-specific vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including relative clauses (“which further gets forwarded”) and conditional phrasing (“Even when a person may not be initially interested…”). Most sentences remain understandable, and the errors do not generally obstruct the message. Some grammatical inaccuracies persist, however. For example, “internet has connected” needs an article, “people can buy clothes that has gone viral” has a subject–verb agreement error, and “Such psycological influences mainly results” also has agreement problems. The conclusion’s “occurs due to of” shows an incorrect grammatical pattern. Review articles, agreement, and verb patterns, then proofread longer sentences to improve control.
