Student answer (Band 5.5)

The global fashion trends of clothes are influencing the several aspects of the type how individuals are dressing up. This essay discusses that how global fashion has a strong impact on people's dressing sense and I think that it is a negative development for the society as it increases the cultural erosion.

First of all, the primary reason why modern fashion become such a strong influence on people's lives is the celebrities and famous people. To explain this, famous personalities are promoting new global fashion by doing advertisements, TV shows, serials and films. Hence, the public want to try new fashion that their favourite celebrities wear or promote, which directly boosts the interest of the people in the new fashion trends. For example, in 2012, Indian personalities worked with western fashion companies and the sales of those companies increased by 45% of the Indian people. Therefore, new global trends have influenced by the famous personalities like actors or actresses and content creators.

Apart from this, this trend has a negative impact on the society. The first and foremost reason why I believe it is a negative development is that it directly raises the cultural erosion. In other words, young individuals will intend to wear new fashion clothes rather than the traditional clothes so that youngsters loose their interest in their traditions and cultures. For instance, in India, the citizens influence by western culture so that they wear jeans and tops instead of traditional clothes like 'suit and salwar'. Thus, the global fashions have reduced the importance of traditional wears.

In conclusion, I believe that global fashion trends promote by the celebrities, which has a negative impact on the country's youth as it increases the cultural erosion because people can easily influence by their favourite personalities and want to dress up like them.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both parts of the question: you explain celebrity promotion as a source of global fashion’s influence and clearly state that you see it as negative because it can weaken cultural traditions. The examples about Indian celebrities and traditional clothing are relevant, and the conclusion restates your position. However, the explanation of how celebrity influence works is more developed than the discussion of its effects; the claim that young people lose interest in their culture would benefit from a clearer explanation or a more specific example. The sales statistic is also presented without enough context to show how it supports the point. Develop the cause-and-effect reasoning more fully and make the supporting evidence precise.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph explaining the influence of celebrities, a paragraph on the negative effects, and a conclusion. Linking expressions such as “First of all,” “Apart from this,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow. However, some connections are mechanical, and repeated references to “global fashion” and “cultural erosion” make the argument feel less developed. The sentence beginning “Therefore, new global trends…” does not clearly follow from the preceding example, and “this trend” could refer to more than one idea. Use pronouns and transitions more precisely, and connect each example explicitly to the claim it supports.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “global fashion trends,” “traditional clothes,” “celebrities,” and “cultural erosion,” so the main ideas are generally clear. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “primary reason” and “negative development.” However, several word choices and collocations are unnatural or imprecise, including “the type how individuals are dressing up,” “dressing sense,” and “raises the cultural erosion.” Some expressions are repeated, particularly “fashion” and “influence,” which limits flexibility. Choose more natural academic collocations and vary the wording where possible; for example, describe trends as shaping clothing choices and traditions as being weakened or displaced.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, using clauses with “because,” “so that,” and “which,” and the overall meaning is usually understandable. However, errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction occur across the response. Examples include “modern fashion become” instead of “modern fashion has become,” “the citizens influence by western culture” instead of a passive form such as “are influenced,” and “youngsters loose their interest,” where the verb should be “lose.” The opening sentence also has an unclear structure. These errors sometimes make relationships between ideas harder to follow. Practise accurate passive constructions and subject–verb agreement, then proofread each sentence for a complete, correctly formed clause.
