Student answer (Band 6.0)

People's dressing style is largely influenced by the fashion trends being followed worldwide. According to my viewpoint, it is a negative trend that people follow global fashion. Firstly, it is considered a privilege to afford branded clothes and trending styles. Secondly, many celebrities are in competition with their rivals and wouldn't want to stay out of fashion, which in turn pursuades the normal public to idealise them greatly.

Due to a rise in demand for fashionable and attractive clothing, it has been seen that there's a rise in competition within the clothing industry. Several branded companies are working diligently towards crafting exquisite styles which would cater to customer's need. Additionally, people consider it luxurious to afford branded and stylish clothes. Therefore, It is always the upper class of the society who are able to afford them in contrast to the middle and lower class people. This variation in affordability also results in dissatisfaction and low morale. To give an example, one of my cousin who is from Dubai is always seen wearing clothers from luxurious and high-end brands. So whenever he visits India, his other cousins starts envying him and start thinking him to be better than them.

On the other hand, celebrities believe that they prosper in their careers if they follow the latest fashion trends. Moreover, society gets highly influenced by their iconic dressing style and fashion sense, which persuades them to idealise them. Furthermore, they end up purchasing replicas of their clothes if they're unable to afford the original masterpieces. In an urge to create their look alike, people go beyond their means to own these dresses. For example, I came across an old friend of mine, who was obsessed with bollywood actresses and would idealise them profoundly. She was assured to become a model one day and to accomplish her wishes, she travelled to different cities across India so that she could create and own their attires. Because of her travelling expenses, she came to a position where she had to take loans from bank.

To conclude, though fashionable clothes and unique styling is believed to be attractive and appealing, it has its own repurcussions. If an individual starts getting addicted to it, it becomes difficult for them to come out of it. They begin to feel demotivated and show low self-esteem in front of fashionable people. Also idealising actors is considered to be a big drawback, as it can make a person agitated to follow their clothing sense by going beyond their means like bankruptcy. Therefore, I strongly believe that the inlfuence of fashion trends has a negative influence on the public.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You give a clear negative position and address both questions: the discussion of branded clothing explains one source of influence, while the celebrity examples show how public figures encourage people to imitate fashion. The examples about your cousin and friend make the consequences concrete. However, the explanation of how fashion became globally influential is less fully developed than the negative effects. You mention celebrities and demand, but do not explain broader mechanisms such as social media, advertising, or international brands spreading styles across countries. Some claims, such as people becoming bankrupt or fashion causing low self-esteem, are asserted more strongly than the examples establish. Develop the causes and qualify broad claims to make the response more complete and convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a coherent overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs develop separate reasons, and the conclusion returns to your position. Linking expressions such as “Firstly,” “Additionally,” and “On the other hand” help signal the stages of the argument, and the examples are placed alongside the relevant points. This meets the lower-band expectation of clear overall arrangement and shows some stronger progression. At times, however, connectors are mechanical or do not express the relationship precisely: “On the other hand” introduces another supporting reason rather than a contrast. Some references, including repeated “them” in the celebrity discussion, are not fully clear. Use transitions that reflect the actual logic and make links between claims and examples more explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for the topic, including phrases such as “branded clothes,” “latest fashion trends,” “low morale,” and “self-esteem.” Attempts at less common vocabulary such as “exquisite,” “replicas,” and “idealise” show ambition, and the meaning is generally understandable. Some choices are inaccurate or unnatural, however: “pursuades” is misspelled, “clothers” and “repurcussions” contain spelling errors, and “create their look alike” is not idiomatic. Phrases such as “fashionable people” and “unique styling” are also imprecise in context. Aim for accurate collocations and check spelling carefully; a few awkward choices currently limit the precision and naturalness of the vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex forms, including subordinate clauses with “which” and “if,” and most sentences communicate the intended meaning. Some grammatical errors remain, but they rarely prevent understanding. For example, “one of my cousin … is” needs plural agreement, and “his other cousins starts” should also use a plural verb. In “people … start thinking him to be better,” the construction is not grammatically controlled; use “start thinking that he is better” or “consider him better.” There are also article and number issues in “take loans from bank” and “clothing … cater to customer's need.” Review subject–verb agreement, articles, and plural forms, and proofread longer sentences to improve accuracy while retaining your range of structures.
