Student answer (Band 6.0)

The way people style and wear their clothes now a days is substantially influenced by global fashion trends. Since everyone is connected with each other in this global village with the help of internet, it does not matter where you are residing in the world. You can easily watch the fashion trends over the internet and that's how it has strong influence on people lives. I largely believe that this has a negative development on the person because it requires excessive spending of money and staying up to date with the fashion trends creates invisible pressure over them.

It could be argued that following the global fashion trends helps in developing the personality of a person. Wearing new distinct styled clothes helps in developing confidence while interacting with other people in real life and overall add up to his own personality from which other people are influenced too. For example, wearing dress shirt and pant on workplace or important meetings represent about your personality and how important you take that meeting. Thus unless the global fashion trends are followed with control over yourself, it can result in a negative development.

I largely believe that following the global fashion trends requires a lot of money and these fashion trends are always changing over a period of time. If people don't have financial management skills or get highly influenced by the fashion styles they could spend excessive amount of money which could have used for other better purposes such as increasing the standard of their own living, learning new skills or helping someone in their life. Unless a person has control over the influence, it would result in negative effect overall.

Another drawback is that those who are under the influence of global fashion trends are always scrolling over the internet and consuming different content by influencers to stay up to date. This fear occurs because they think that they might miss out something new or other peer fellows will judge them because they are not following the latest fashion trends. It results in a pressure on them which has negative effects on their mental health and personality.

In conclusion, global fashion trends do have a strong influence on the people lives and how they dress their clothes but following these trends demand excessive amount of money and invisible pressure over them to stay up to date with the society.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both parts of the question: you explain the influence of internet access and state that the development is largely negative because of spending and social pressure. The two drawbacks are relevant and supported with explanations, including the possible alternative uses of money and fear of being judged. The paragraph acknowledging confidence and professional presentation adds balance, but its connection to global fashion trends is not fully established, and the example mainly concerns appropriate workplace clothing rather than global trends. The explanation of how online exposure makes fashion influential is also brief. To strengthen the response, develop this mechanism further and make each example directly illustrate global fashion’s influence.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a balancing point, two paragraphs explaining drawbacks, and a conclusion. The progression from online access to financial and psychological effects is generally easy to follow, and phrases such as “For example” and “Another drawback” help signal the direction of the argument. However, linking is sometimes mechanical, particularly through repeated use of “Unless” and “I largely believe.” Some references are also unclear: “them” in the introduction could refer to people generally, while “these trends” and “the influence” recur without always specifying the connection. Use a wider range of transitions and make references more precise to improve flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “global fashion trends,” “financial management skills,” “influencers,” and “mental health.” These choices allow you to explain both practical and emotional consequences, and the meaning is generally clear. There are, however, some inaccurate or unnatural collocations and word choices, such as “invisible pressure,” “peer fellows,” and “wearing new distinct styled clothes.” “The way people dress” would be more natural than “how they dress their clothes.” These issues do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and fluency. Aim to learn common word partnerships and choose expressions that convey your intended meaning directly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex structures, including conditional clauses such as “If people don't have financial management skills…” and “Unless a person has control…”. Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur across the response. For example, “it has strong influence on people lives” needs an article and possessive form, while “overall add up” does not agree with its subject. In “which could have used for other better purposes,” the clause needs a passive verb form. There are also sentence-boundary and punctuation issues, including the comma splice in “This fear occurs because…, or other peer fellows will judge them.” Review agreement, articles, and clause construction while retaining your complex sentences.
