Student answer (Band 6.0)

Most people believe that the global fashion trends have heavly inspired the way they dress today. Global fashion has transformed people's styles and lives. In my opinion, modern day dillemma roams around fashions and it has more negative impacts than positive.

There are a number of reasons why trends have become so popular nowadays. The fashion industry has always started new trends and have gained popularity among the young generation. Trends reveal the best hidden gems of the fashion industry and as well as keeps the creativity alive and helps connect people. Internet has brought back to life some of the most amazing fashion icons from the 90s which made many appreciate the designer. For example, the trend to dress like Marylin Monroe on halloween, became so famous in 2020 that people all around the world were paying homage to her. By following different trends, people get a chance to connect to each other and get inspired by each others creactivity that fosters the fashion community.

Although this trend may have multple positive aspects, I firmly believe that it has negative impacts on the mental health and also forces people to spend money and time on different trends they see on instagram or tiktok. Global trends change every almost every month for example, any celebrity wearing a pretty dress is turned into a trend that is not seen after sometime. As a result, this encourages the youth to follow blindly and waste huge amount of money on it. Furthermore, when someone is not wearing what other people are wearing, they become anxious and feel they are lagging behind which has a adverse effect on their mental health as they feel in a constant state of pressure to be on top of the trend.

In conclusion, while fashion keeps the creativity alive and helps to connect people in different ways, it has far-reaching consequences too, I believe that following trends without a personal taste makes people stressfull and is not economically beneficial.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both parts of the question: you identify social media and the fashion industry as influences, and you clearly judge the development to be more negative than positive. The discussion of pressure to keep up with trends and the resulting spending is relevant and supported with examples such as Instagram, TikTok and celebrity clothing. The positive side—creativity and connection—is also acknowledged, but it is less fully explained. The example of dressing as Marilyn Monroe illustrates a trend, yet does not clearly show how global fashion becomes influential in everyday life. To strengthen the response, explain the mechanisms more directly, such as rapid online exposure, celebrity promotion and international retail, and develop each example’s connection to your main argument.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the causes and effects, and a conclusion that restates your position. Ideas generally progress logically, and linking expressions such as “For example,” “As a result” and “Furthermore” help show relationships. This gives the essay a coherent arrangement. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. The first body paragraph moves from the fashion industry to hidden gems, creativity, the internet and a Halloween example without fully explaining how each point links to global influence. The final sentence also joins contrasting ideas with a comma, weakening the conclusion’s flow. Use clearer topic sentences and make references explicit so each example develops the paragraph’s central point.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “fashion industry,” “trends,” “mental health,” “creativity” and “homage.” Some attempts at less common or expressive language show ambition, but several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “modern day dilemma roams around fashions,” “reveal the best hidden gems” and “fosters the fashion community.” Spelling errors, including “heavly,” “dillemma,” “multple” and “creactivity,” also reduce precision, although the intended meaning is usually recoverable. Aim for more natural collocations and check spelling carefully. For example, describe the issue as “the pressure to follow fashion trends” rather than a dilemma that “roams around” fashion, and use “encourages creativity” instead of “keeps the creativity alive.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses beginning with “Although,” “when” and “as a result,” and most ideas remain understandable. However, some grammatical errors and punctuation problems limit accuracy. In “The fashion industry has always started new trends and have gained popularity,” the subject and verb do not agree, and the sentence’s meaning is unclear. “Every almost every month” contains a faulty word order, while “they become anxious and feel they are lagging behind which has a adverse effect” needs clearer clause punctuation and an article correction. The conclusion also joins two independent ideas with a comma. Review agreement, articles and sentence boundaries, then proofread complex sentences to ensure each clause is correctly connected.
