Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, the clothing market is running on global fashion trends and people follow their favourite celebrities and dress what they wear. There are multiple factor that makes the global fashion such an influential thing. In my opinion, it can be both a positive and negative development.

To begin with, how has global fashion become such a strong influence on people's lives is that many people follow international models and film stars on social media. When fans see their ideals wearing new type of clothing, they starts wearing to follow new trend. To prove my point, in 2019, the skinny pants and flashy colors were in trend on social media globally, however, in the biginning of 2020 people started wearing baggy clothes as they were in trend on social media and started hating people who put on skinny.

The fashion trends can be negative and positive development, firstly, it can be positive development in a sense, that it can change the way of living as per previous example, skinny attire are also harmful for blood circulation in body. In contrast, it is a negative development, as it makes people prone to latest trend and eventually they starts wearing unusual and funky clothes, for instance, people wear clothes made from newspaper in the name of global fashion.

In conclusion, the global fashion trend affect people's life through social media as mentioned in example, in my view, it can be both positive and negative development, because it has both health benefits and nonesense fashion trends.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You address both questions: you link fashion’s influence to celebrities and social media, and you give a mixed view of its effects. However, the explanation and examples are limited and not fully developed. The shift from skinny to baggy clothing illustrates trend-following, but the claim that tight clothing harms circulation is asserted rather than explained, while the newspaper-clothing example is not clearly connected to a wider negative impact. Your position is stated, though the conclusion repeats it rather than resolving the discussion. The response is 240 words, so it does not meet the 250-word minimum; the 12 words copied from the prompt are excluded. Develop each main point with clearer reasoning and a relevant, specific example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the reader can generally follow the main points. You use signposts such as “To begin with,” “In contrast,” and “In conclusion” to show relationships between ideas. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear: the first body paragraph begins with an awkwardly framed question, and the discussion of positive and negative effects moves quickly between health, trend-following and unusual clothing. Some linking is mechanical, particularly “firstly” followed by “In contrast,” and the conclusion largely repeats the introduction. Organise each paragraph around one clear claim, then explain and support it before moving to the next point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “global fashion trends,” “international models,” “social media,” and “baggy clothes.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions such as “blood circulation” and “prone to,” although the latter is not used naturally in “prone to latest trend.” Repetition of “trend,” “fashion,” and “development” limits the range, and several word choices or collocations are awkward, such as “follow their favourite celebrities and dress what they wear” and “skinny attire.” Spelling errors, including “biginning” and “nonesense,” also reduce accuracy. Build a broader set of natural collocations for describing influence, consumer behaviour and social effects, and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a subordinate clause beginning “When fans see…” and a contrast structure with “In contrast.” However, the range is limited, and complex attempts often contain errors that make the writing less clear. For example, “There are multiple factor” has a plural-agreement error, while “they starts wearing” and “the global fashion trend affect” show problems with subject–verb agreement. In “people follow their favourite celebrities and dress what they wear,” the second clause is not grammatically complete in the intended meaning. Articles and plurals are also inconsistent, as in “new type of clothing” and “skinny attire are.” Practise checking agreement, sentence completeness and article use, then proofread each sentence.
