Student answer (Band 5.5)

A large number of people these days are influenced by global fashion trends influencing the way they dress nowadays. And in my opinion I believe this is a negative development because it can result in lost of culture and bad influence in young generation.

One of the reason global fashion influence is marked negative it that it can lead to cultural loss in long run. This is because when everyone starts following the global fashion trends every time and every where our local cultural costumes gets ignored. And in long run this can also result in gradual fading of our cultural attires. When we won't even have any unique attire left to show our next generation and they will also forget about it, giving no chance for the other upcoming generation even hear about it causing loss of our uniquness. For instance, even in Nepal, most of the old tradition attires are no longer available because of the western influence in Nepali fashion during the rana regim.

Another reason is that it can have bad influence in the younger generation. As we all know negative stunts get audience and noticed way faster than positive developments. So, there are high chances that people might get influenced to follow such negative fashion trends which might even effect younger generation. For instance, in context of India, many young girls got influnced by the western fashion trends due to which their attitude towards the tradditional attires changed and lead to distruction of their local costumes, conveting them into something that not really appeling. Forthermore the main reason for this influence is the use of internet and televisions.

In conclusion, eventhought following global fashion trends does not harm any individuals personally, I believe doing so can lend to various problems in the future.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You give a clear negative view and offer two relevant concerns: the loss of cultural dress and the influence of fashion on young people. The Nepal and India examples help connect these points to real contexts. However, the response only partly answers the question because it gives little explanation of how global fashion became so influential. The internet and television are mentioned only briefly at the end of the second body paragraph, without explaining how they spread trends or shape choices. Some claims, such as traditional attire being “no longer available,” are also broad and not sufficiently supported. Develop the causes as well as the effects, and explain each example more carefully to make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs with separate concerns, and a conclusion. The progression from cultural loss to effects on young people is generally easy to follow, and phrases such as “For instance” signal examples. However, some linking is mechanical or unclear. The second body paragraph moves from negative stunts to fashion influence without showing the connection, while “Furthermore” introduces the internet and television but does not clearly relate them to the preceding point. The conclusion also introduces the idea that fashion does not harm individuals personally, which is not developed earlier. Use clearer links between claims and evidence, and ensure the conclusion reflects the argument already established.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “global fashion trends,” “cultural loss,” “traditional attires,” and “western influence,” so the main ideas can be understood. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making meaning less clear. For example, “lost of culture” and “bad influence in young generation” are not natural expressions, while “negative stunts” does not clearly describe fashion trends. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “uniquness,” “influnced,” and “tradditional.” Build a more precise vocabulary for discussing cultural identity and media influence, and check spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses beginning “because” and “when,” and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, the range is limited, and complex sentences are often faulty. For example, “One of the reason … it that” has errors in number and sentence structure, and “our local cultural costumes gets ignored” has subject–verb disagreement. The sentence beginning “When we won't even have…” is a fragment, while “their attitude … changed and lead” shifts verb form inconsistently. Punctuation and sentence boundaries also need attention, particularly in the opening, where “And” begins a sentence after an incomplete-sounding introduction. Practise accurate clause construction, agreement, and consistent verb forms.
