Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is undeniable that Global fashion trends have influenced peoples clothing preferences in many ways and has become a major topic of discussion in recent times. While this development has some clear benefits, it is overall a negative development.
On the one hand, increase in global trends is a result of technological advancements,as the advertising agencies target population through social media marketing. There are some clear benefits of following global fashion trends,as individuals are able to improve their physical appearances and look more confident. Moreover, increase in the demand of fashionable dresses, result in substantial production of fashion industry that lead to more employment opportunites and boost the economical development of the country.
On the other hand, certain negative aspects associated with this development cannot be overlooked, which significantly outweigh the benefits. The main downside is that sustainability is reduced and people are more inclined towards purchasing new fashionable dresses even if their older dresses are perfectly fine. This result in massive production of clothes and the quality is also compromised. As the global trend setters know very well that these dresses are not going to be worn more than two or three timee, they are using extremely low quality fabric which end up in waste. For instance, i have personally observed the clothing industrial areas where excessive production cause littering and pieces of cloth thrown away in waste stuck later in drainage system and oceans and cause severe problems.Furthermore, people start to compete with each other and this leads to frustrating behaviours and anxiety.
In conclusion, global fashion trends influencing peoples clothing choices have clear sets of advantages and disadvantages, although it is invreasing employment ratio and boosting people confidence, I personally believe that it is a negative development as it is causing detrimental affects to the environment by reducing sustainability and increased littering. Moreover. it is also increaing competition among people and this may exacerbate stress levels. Therefore,it is essential to make people aware of not to follow the trends blindly due to clever marketing done by fashion industry and motivate them to keep a balance in reusing the clothes and stop them from
impulsive buying.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both parts of the question: you explain the influence of social-media marketing and give a clear view that the development is negative overall. The discussion of environmental waste is relevant and supported with a personal observation, while employment and confidence provide counterbalancing benefits. This meets the task well, but the explanation of how global fashion became influential is less fully developed than the evaluation of its effects; for example, you could explain more specifically how online exposure, celebrities, or international brands shape purchasing habits. Some claims, such as fashion creating employment and anxiety, are asserted rather than explored. Your position is clear, though the conclusion could state the main reasons more precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, contrasting body paragraphs, and a conclusion. The progression from benefits to drawbacks is easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “Furthermore” help guide the reader. This is a coherent arrangement, but some linking is mechanical, and connections between ideas could be smoother. For instance, the move from low-quality clothing to waste and then to anxiety introduces several consequences quickly without fully showing how each follows from global trends. The conclusion also repeats points from the body rather than synthesising them. Use clearer referencing and develop transitions between cause, example, and consequence.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “technological advancements,” “sustainability,” “fashionable,” “littering,” and “impulsive buying.” These choices make the main ideas clear, and you attempt some less common expressions. However, several word-choice and collocation problems reduce precision: “substantial production of fashion industry” and “economical development” are not natural in context, while “detrimental affects” uses the wrong form of the word. There are also spelling errors such as “opportunites,” “invreasing,” and “increaing.” Aim for more accurate collocations and proofread spelling; this would make your vocabulary more flexible and natural without changing the ideas.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “as,” “even if,” and “although.” The overall meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors recur and occasionally make sentences awkward. For example, “global fashion trends have influenced … and has become” has a subject–verb agreement problem, and “This result in massive production” needs a correctly formed verb. In “the quality is also compromised,” the reference to quality is unclear, while the long sentence beginning “As the global trend setters…” contains several clauses that are not controlled accurately. Punctuation and spacing around commas and full stops also need attention. Build accuracy in sentence boundaries, agreement, and verb forms while retaining complex structures.
